Cockatoo Valley Tiny Vacations

This 20 acre property is dedicated to our horses, dogs and talking birds and relaxing! We have recently moved to 19D Cockatoo Valley so it's just the beginning. Tranquil and relaxing with local wildlife is what we offer you. You are welcome to wander down the hill into the big paddock and get a close up view of the big Solar tracking system that services the property, and continue on and explore the scrub area where many native birds come and go including kookaburras. The line of trees planted in the gully area are dedicated koala forage trees so also wander down there and have a look and see if you can spot one. Our sheep may run up to you if they think you have something for them to eat. Cut apples or carrots into pieces the size of a 5 cent coin for them to eat. There are horses in paddocks toward the dam where wild ducks hang out, and you are also very welcome to say hello to them, but please do not enter their paddocks OR feed them. There are raceways between paddocks to continue your walk up the raceways to see the horses if they are out of view at their gates. Beware of the electric fencing though, it hurts if you touch it! We now have some very friendly chooks and turkeys that LOVE to say hello and be hand fed. Small amount of bread or preferably small chopped up pieces of apple, carrot, grapes and watermelon! In time we will have them in a separate area like a petting zoo where you can come and go and sit quietly and enjoy interacting with them. Adult supervision please and no chasing them. Wait for them to approach you please. A family of magpies will enjoy any meat scraps you leave for them too. Camp anywhere on the right hand side as you drive in via the automatic opening gate which you will be given access to once we have added your mobile number to the system after you have booked. We are currently planting more native shrubs and trees in this area to encourage even more bird life plus provide future windbreaks. From this area you will see the most spectacular sunsets and be able to have an open campfire during winter season. Take a short drive down Goldsfield Rd to the Mining Museum and hiking trails. A few KM's towards Williamstown stop in and see the Whispering Wall, built between 1899 and 1903, for its time of construction the dam was deemed a revolutionary engineering marvel. Sounds and voices, even a whisper can be clearly heard at the other end of the dam more then 100 meters away. Continue on through Williamstown and hire a kayak and explore the Warren Reservoir with the resident pelicans. The Warren reservoir was built on the South Para River between 1914 and 1916. Mt Crawford forest is then another short drive on where you can hike, ride and picnic and be guaranteed to see kangaroos in their natural habitat. We are also ideally located being at the gateway to numerous wineries, take your e-bike and explore the towns in the Barossa Valley which are linked with rose lined bitumen trails, explore the shops, cafes and enjoy delectable food, stop in at the Lavender Farm, treat yourself to a scenic flights with Barossa Helicopters or challenge yourself at Barossa Bowland and fantastic themed Dinosaur mini golf just to name even more options! Less than 10 minute drive from our front gate will have you at the lovely town of Lyndoch where the local IGA is a handy stop for those emergency essentials as well as the local bakery, craft shop, pub, post office, Lord of Lyndoch restaurant, Table Cafe Kies winery for starters. 10 Minures the other direction will see you at a new suburb Springwood which has a variety of shops and a Chemist, couple minutes further will have you at the lovely town of Gawler. The visitor center here is also home to local artists to exhibit their works. As you can see, you have plenty of options to tailor your stay to suit the type of experience you are after. The location is ideal, being just 5mins from Nairne village (which has a great Foodland, butcher and bottle shop). Plus there are plenty of foodie and wine options to discover in the region. We offer different options, some sites have water and power (and access to the pool) and others are more remote, fully self-sufficient spots. Many sites have a campfire space (not available during the summer fire ban months). Pets are welcome off-leash, so long as they remain under control and do not disturb the farm animals, keep them on leash if you aren't sure how they will behave around sheep and cattle. Also note we have 2 dogs here, and 3 cats, and other guests may have pets, so make sure your dog is dog-friendly, or else keep them leashed at all times.

Winter Wetlands Sanctuary

Forest Gate B&B has been receiving guests on the property for nearly 40 years. Forest Gate Winter Wetlands is a small private sanctuary that we share with our guests. We run a small farm in the Adelaide Hills, and over the past 10 years, have been developing a 'Winter Wetlands' in the Southern corner of our property. The Winter Wetlands is NOT a 'caravan park'. It is a small, private, sanctuary, at it's best in the Winter months when the pond comes to life. Guests can kick back around the campfire overlooking the dam, as they listen to the crickets and frogs in the evenings. There is a resident resident Western Grey kangaroo, many possums (both ring-tail and brush-tail), native burrowing rats, and a plethora of birdlife including favourites such as blue wrens, fairy wrens, and a resident family of chuffs. *WE ONLY ALLOW SELF-DRIVEN CAMPERVANS THAT ARE 7.5m OR LESS IN LENGTH* Must have own toilet facilities and grey water reservoir. *NO CARAVANS, TRAILERS, OR TENTS.* We request that guests leave no sign of visitation, and take all waste with them. CAMPERVAN SITES: We have 7 independent, unpowered, sites that are suited for Class A or B campervans ONLY. 7.5 m or less (see size restrictions). NO TENTS, CARAVANS or TRAILERS ACCESS: There is easy, main road access into the 'Winter Wetlands' from Brookman road. GPS: -35.21694, 138.6970. Opposite gate NC1 of the Kuitpo Forrest. There is a clearly marked, one-way, loose stone road that leads to all available sites. COMMUNAL AREAS: The communal shelter shed, picnic areas, and two communal camp fires offer a variety of places to relax and watch the local birds and other fauna enjoy the area. Other FEATURES include: - Directly across the road from the Heysen Trail. - 3-4 minutes to exceptional SA wineries. - Near Echunga Goldfields and Prospect Hill for fossicking. - TreeClimb Kuipto Forest is only 2 km up the road. - Easy access to tourist townships of McLaren Vale (15 mins), Hahndorf (25 mins), Mt Barker (25 mins) and Willunga (15 min). - Facilities such as Pharmacy, Medical clinic, Petrol Station, Hotel, and Bakery can be found in Meadows, which is only 5 mins away. The Winter Wetlands are fully fenced. In the interest of the wellbeing of local wild life, nearby stock, and neighbours, we ask that you do not play loud music at night. WASTE: Guests staying in the Winter Wetlands must have self contained toilet facilities and grey water tank. There is a Waste Dump Point in Meadows (6 km away) near the footy oval (Brooks street rec. ground, GPS: -35.180278, 138.76). SIZE RESTRICTIONS: Due to the nature of the vegetation in the Winter Wetlands, and manoeuvrability of vehicles, size restrictions apply. Sites will suit campervans (7.5 m or less), but will NOT be suitable for caravans. Caravans, trailers and tents are NOT permitted. UNSUITABLE for CHILDREN and PETS: Forest Gate is a working farm. There are regularly livestock in the paddocks adjacent to the Winter Wetlands. There is also an open dam and a communal fireplace in the Winter Wetlands. Due to our insurance policy, we can not allow children or pets. Therefore, stays in the Winter Wetlands are only available to adults.

Our property is located in the rocky outcrops of the Bremer Ranges and is on the Bremer River in Rockleigh. This site was once a overnight yard for the sheep farmers who were passing through the area. We have three separate locations for campers to choose from. The Gums- surrounded by small gum trees right near the Bremer River. The Carob- this site is situated further back from the river and is surrounded by mulberry trees. Lastly we have The Sticks- this site is behind the scrubby bushed and requires tight access and is more suited to tents and swags. The decent into camp is quite narrow and steep so please drive carefully. We are 45 minute drive from the Lavender Federation Trail which is a popular walking track in the region. We are only 30 minutes drive from Monarto Conservation Park which is a popular spot for walking trails and picnics. Monarto is also home to a Safari Park which is the largest Safari Park in Australia and home to lots of interesting animals. We have a toilet available but please BYO toilet paper. From the 15th April fire are allowed. & portable firepits are available for your use Sorry, not pets.
