Camping near Moranbah guide

Overview

Follow the Peak Downs Highway from the Whitsunday Coast to the inland Isaac Region, and you’ll pass right by the small coal-mining city of Moranbah. The giant Big Red Rhino Bucket greets you on arrival, a tribute to the city’s coal mining industry, but the big draw for outdoor adventurers is the surrounding natural landscapes. Head to Lake Elphinstone to swim, fish, and camp by the lakeside, or scale the summits of Wolfang Peak and Lords Table Mountain at nearby Peak Range National Park. The coastal city of Mackay is just a 2-hour drive away, from where you can explore sandy beaches and islands, or hike along the rainforest trails of Eungella National Park, famous for its wild platypus sightings. Campers have numerous options, from powered sites right on the edge of town to rural Hipcamps or bush camping in the national parks.
