We had a lovely stay at Mickelberry Forest Gardens! While a short walk to the owner's house, the site felt completely private. The property has a gorgeous meadow and a spectacular view from the top of the meadow. We enjoyed meeting all the host's animals - chickens (fresh eggs!), ducks, turtles, cats and dog. Amy and Bill were great hosts!
The Mickelberry Forest Gardens is a great place to camp near Newtown, Connecticut. Bill And Amy were friendly and gracious hosts, making sure we knew where everything was and suggesting activities that we could do in the area. They even accommodated our last minute request for farm fresh eggs that they sell, which were delicious.
The property contains two sites, and we were lucky enough to have the option to stay at either. The sites are beautifully kept and well stocked with fire wood, tinder, and places to sit. The property itself is quite large and has stunning views of the rolling hills/mountains covered with thick forest. You'll also find on the property a chicken coop, a lovely pond, an equestrian jumping fence (to practice our high jump of course), and a tree swing that overlooks the whole property.
Overall this site was great, We would definitely stay here again. Thanks for having us!
I cannot express how grateful I am for Bill and Amy. This was Charlie and my first Hipcamp experience and we LOVED it. From the peaceful farm meadow to the constant company of butterflies and kitties, it was such a magical anniversary. Bill and Amy were so sweet and accommodating. And the location was perfect; just a five minute drive from stunning hiking trails! We would absolutely go back and definitely recommend this location to future campers.
Meadows Edge was wonderful and Amy is even better. I accidentally booked the wrong week and showed up a week early and she still let us stay. The area is near a state park which made for incredible hiking. It was all such a refreshing and relaxing experience even despite sleeping in negative degree weather ! Amy offered us blankets and everything else that we needed during our stay, it really was a great experience !
Amazing stay at mickelberry
Our stay at Mickelberry Forest Gardens was fantastic. Amy was so flexible with our variable arrival time. The Gardens are phenomenal; not only are there fresh berry trees sprinkled throughout the entire garden, but chickens and ducks that you can buy fresh eggs from for the morning! There's also a cool, well-groomed trail into the field towards a meditation rock. Overall a very private site that feels very separate from the house as well as the other campsite.
There are so many nice details that make this campsite extremely accommodating -- a clean grill that can take both charcoal and wood, a firepit with some chairs, a beautiful handmade picnic table, and a sink with potable water.
Will definitely stay again and have already recommended it to a friend.
Mickelberry forest sanctuary
Such a lovely experience!! This was my family’s first time camping with Hipcamp. We usually use Tentrr, so we were slightly apprehensive at first. What a pleasant surprise it was! The host Amy and her husband were very welcoming upon arrival. They gave us a tour of the site, set us up with plenty of firewood and grilling equipment ( lighter, newspaper , bug spray), and were available for any questions or concerns during our stay. The camp set up was neat & sweet, with an adorable picnic table and lounging chairs for a cozy snug by the fire pit. There were also solar lights in the trees surrounding the campsite which helped with lighting at night, especially when camping with little campers( and plus gave it a cool ambience). It was extremely private and gave the feel of good ol rural camping in the forest. I was able to wake up at 630am for a small hike up the hill to take a few swings on lovely tree swing as the sun rose. A must visit secret gem!
We had a wonderful evening staying with Bill and Amy. They have a beautiful property and provided all the amenities to make our stay as comfortable as possible. The stars at night were beautiful and the nearby state park provided for a fun morning of hiking and swimming in the river. I would definitely come back to visit this lovely home. Thanks for being wonderful hosts.
