Come and enjoy a quiet retreat, or use Fernwood as a base for many outdoor activities-biking, fishing, hiking-all nearby.  Natchaug Forest offers great trout fishing.  Goodwin State Forest is less than 3 miles away by car where you can put in a canoe on Pine Lake, amble through the wildflower and pollinator gardens, or enjoy the Education Center and Museum. From Goodwin, you can access the Air Line State Park Bike/Hiking Path.

If you want a change from all that nature, there is Sharpe Hill Vineyard less than 10 miles away, as well as We-Li-Kit IceCream less than 6 miles.  The route to either place will take you through beautiful scenic farmland.

We hope you enjoy our forest and the surrounding area as much as we do.

I self booked as an owner because we were hosting a special group who wanted to help with wood gathering. We had two youngsters who were overjoyed to camp in the wooded environment, sit by the campfire and make s'mores. The hosts prepared delicious meals for the group and had a campfire going when guests arrived in the evening. Bathroom was clean and easily accessible. Guests indicated they'd like to return.

What a great site! The white pines around the site were shedding their old needles and everything had a fresh soft carpet over it. Our host, Alan, had left plenty of dry wood for our fires, and buckets of pond water so we could make sure they were out cold when we were done for the night. There are area maps in the check-in kiosk by the road and the state forest half a mile further down has a number of easy, well-maintained trails and a pond overlook for wildlife viewing. Others have mentioned that the main tent site is close to the road. That's true, but the only traffic was the one neighbor farther along the dead-end street. The toilet was very clean, too.

Situated on a dead end road Fernwood is a cozy little spot in the woods near a lake and state forest trails. There are two sites to choose from. The first is closer to the road but has the best spot to pitch a tent with soft, mossy ground under mixed woods. The second spot is further back and more private and has the better of the two fire rings.
As it is early in the season the lack of leaves made the first site feel a little exposed but I saw maybe two cars drive by the entire time. I imagine had the leaves come in I wouldn't have noticed even those.

Nice to escape for a night on Alan’s land. We stayed around a new fire pit Alan had made recently which was back off the main road, a plus for privacy.

Alan was kind enough to get us set up with some firewood and was a kind host.

We had such a wonderful time during our stay at Fernwood. Alan went out of his way to meet us on the property and show us around. The campsite has everything campers need- a great campfire ring, rustic seating, a private toilet, and plenty of flat land perfect for pitching one or several tents. Alan was very generous and wanted to make sure we had everything we needed for a great night of camping. He also told us to use as much firewood as we'd like. The location was very easy to get to, and we loved the privacy of the woods.

There are many spots perfect for pitching tentsAlan has a little area set up for when he comes to camp, and it's great to have an overhead cover just in case the weather is badFernwoodOur camping cat loved exploring!

The camp was well set up and very clean. Everything that i could ask for in a weekend spot with my daughter. The fact that the site was so close to the road had some drawbacks on the secluded aspect, but made it convenient to get in a set up camp. Overall great spot to get out and do some hiking a camping.
