Slumgullion is an amazing place. The firewood was great, the bathrooms were super clean. We actually had the place to ourselves. It gets cold in the valley (late Sept) at night, but it was close to Lake City, several trails, the river, etc. And our camp site was perfect. You would feel alone and in nature even if the camp was full. We really enjoyed it.

This place is a hidden gem! I hope it stays that way. We were so lucky we had the whole place to ourselves. Huge tall trees and tons of firewood. Close enough to the lake we could head over to paddle anytime.
Thank you Lake for answering all my questions:-)

We loved our time at Slumgullion! The sites are very thoughtfully laid out and have good privacy. The location is conveniently close to Lake City, but you feel miles away at camp. You definitely don't notice the RV park and the small number of sites here makes for a very peaceful retreat. We used this as a base camp to hike some spots along the Alpine Loop and Slumgullion was restful and easy to come back to at the end of a long day. Having unlimited firewood was very helpful.

This last minute stay was perfect. Nestled between the mountains and far enough from the road for silence. The sites were large with a picnic table and firewood was readily available to add to the pit. It was a much needed trip to the woods.

Loved this site. The space was really well laid out - We were able to set up our very large cabin tent and still had room to hang around. The site had a fire pit with stump seats, a picnic table, and free fire wood. Bathroom was nearby and very clean. The neighbors were close by but separated by trees, so we still has a lot of privacy. The only downside was that there was no trash pickup so we had to pack our trash out but we didn't know where we could dump it nearby, so we ended up traveling about 100 miles with trash in the trunk. Not a huge deal though. Overall we really loved this site and the host was really kind and friendly and clearly took great care of the place

This was a great place for our family - 2 adults, 2 kids, 2 dogs. Beautiful, quiet, clean, AMAZING stars. Lots of shade since you're basically sleeping in an aspen grove. Much gratitude for the firewood. And plenty to do in Lake City and around. Would definitely recommend this place. We'll be back!
