For our History buffs, in 2015 our site was granted a historic designation from the Douglas County Historic Preservation Board. This designation was in recognition of the work of Robert LeFevre. From 1955-1968, Mr. LeFevre built the Freedom School, a full-time graduate school focusing on the teaching of the Libertarian philosophy movement. These historic buildings are currently closed off to the public but are in the viewing range for pictures.
Each campsite is equipped with a designated picnic table and for an additional cost an optional pre-placed tent, propane fire pit, and more (check-out our extra's). Portable restrooms are available within short walking distances. Our site is ideal for those who truly want to unplug. There is NO cell phone service available on the property. Guests will have access to a landline phone in case of emergencies.
For your recreational desires, our 99-acres incorporates friendly hiking trails and tranquil areas for leisure activities like yoga, meditation, etc. For additional outdoor fun, hiking is available 4-miles east of us at Spruce Mountain Open Space. An escape close to home!
We were their first Hipcampers and had a great time! We were the only campers there on 99 acres - how often can you say that? Our site had great tall lodge pole pines for shade and hammock hanging, and we even had deer, squirrels, and birds (and possibly a small black bear 😬) as visitors to our site! The stargazing was wonderful, considering we were only 40 minutes from home. The hosts were wonderfully accommodating and my son and I had a great time at the archery range on property, too!
Peaceful forest setting
We had a great time! Check-in was easy, we liked having access to phone/WiFi at the main building in case of emergencies, and our campsite was quiet and private. It was just a 1-2 min walk from the car, no trouble carrying stuff in but just having the car out of sight made it feel extra peaceful. The clean porta potty was a blessing! Lots of wildlife in the area - deer, tons of different birds, and yes, we even spotted a small black bear on the grounds. Kept campsite clean and stored food in the car, never had any issues. All in all we loved it. Would definitely camp here again!
This spot was perfect ! Close to the city which was great for our busy schedules. Everyone was so welcoming and the rented fire pit (gas) was perfect for night & safe! Saw so much wildlife and were able to go on great hikes everyday. Definitely coming back !!!
Site 4 was secluded & perfect!
Stone Canyon was perfect for our annual Labor Day trip! We are from Denver but the rest of the group came in from SLC, Sonoma and Tulsa and said it was definitely worth the travel. We were at Site 4 so it was very secluded and we were able to enjoy our music and games. It was a short walk from the car to the site, so it made it feel even more private. Stone Canyon was very accommodating and the WiFi station at base camp (a less than a minute drive) was very helpful for finding trails and directions. There was a cute bear that stopped by from a distance. He was very easy to tell to leave and did not come to our actual site. We enjoyed getting to see wildlife while being so close to Denver. The stars were also beautiful.
We had a great time at Stone Canyon. We went as a group of teachers for a much needed girls night. The staff was more than accommodating. The property is secluded yet stocked with everything you need. The gathering spot in the campsite had benches and a picnic table and even water. We took a hike right from our site. We will definitely come back.
Just what we needed
really awesome place! my partner and I just spent the weekend at Stone Canyon and it was perfect. it was really lovely to be able to have the gas-fueled fire pit since the nights are starting to get a bit cold! there were lots of choices to set up a tent at our site and we felt nice and secluded, yet being able to get a bit of wifi up by the main building was also great to check in with family! we saw a bunch of deer and did have a bear stop by when we cooked dinner, but he scooted away quickly once we made some noise. Alicia was incredibly helpful with getting us situated, including with a big jug of water, and the port-a-potty looked like it had just been cleaned. definitely hoping to be back soon!
Our family enjoyed a September weekend camping at Stone Canyon. Our camp site was terrific, communication with staff was fantastic and all the details went according to plan. We enjoyed archery, the privacy of spread apart camp sites, and it was nice to not travel far from home but still feel like we were getting a break from the daily grind and technology. Every staff member we engaged with by phone, text or in person was welcoming, pleasant and positive. Last - the porta potty was kept clean - always so appreciated. :) Our only sadness is that it's getting to the chillier part of the year, and we likely can't squeeze in another weekend away at Stone Canyon this fall. Thank you for a great experience!
