The spot was right in the tiny town of Rye but still felt secluded. There were lots of deer and other wildlife. Having full hook-ups for our travel trailer was great. The creek that runs through the property is great for kids to splash around in and cool off. The host, Nigel came to greet us at the driveway as we arrived and helped to get backed in to our spot. A previous camper had accidentally left with the electrical adapter and Nigel was great about running to get a new one so we could plug in. The group that stayed in the other site was nice and friendly but smoked cigarettes quite a bit which put a damper on things. Nothing the host did wrong though. The nearby Rye Mountain park is great with lots of secluded picnic areas, more creek access, and an old playground complete with a see-saw, a merry-go-round and metal slides.
Beautiful creek side spot to setup with plenty of shade and privacy. Currently there are two spots next to each other and the host lives on the property. We found a great large park down the road and loved exploring there. The last night we had a bear visit which was a new experience! Will be back. We didn’t have to have 15’ of sewer hose due to how we had to park but there is a pretty well stocked ace nearby. The property is around 2 acs. So if spending more than a couple of days you may want to make sure you have a vehicle to explore.
Nigel is a thoughtful host and all around good person. The location is the perfect balance of wooded setting but not too far from other residences. The only noise to be heard at the campsite were the creek and wind in the trees. The beach area around the waterfall is absolute bliss with enough level area for a yoga mat and plenty of trees for a hammock.
The camp has all the hookups for an rv. The site is still a work in progress but that adds to the charm. I’d far rather stay somewhere like that than a generic rv park.
As a single female camping alone I felt perfectly safe aside from the possibility of running into a bear.
