Want to get up, up and away from it all? No more combat camping for sure. The Backpackers Special sites let you do just that. Great way to get introduced to backpacking without the long hike. We call it minimum gear camping. NO DRIVING to your site. PARK, then a SHORT HIKE UP THE HILL. You can select a private spot just your own. You don't want to be taking tons of gear to these spots. These are the high spots on the ranch with views through the trees of Windy Peak, Green Mountain and Little Scraggy Mountain. Once you are up on top, you find the perfect location to pitch your tent or hammock. There are plenty of flat spots at each site surrounded by Ponderosa and Lodge Pole Pines. Listen to the breeze gently shake the pine needles. Gather pine cones to start your warm fire on a cool evening. There is plenty of wood around to be scrounged. These sites come with a fire pit . View the stars on a clear evening while listening to the coyotes howl. Porta Potties are down the hill. But just in case there is a shovel. Please remember to follow the back packing rules of Leave No Trace. Bring a ziplock bag for your tp or burn it in a fire. TP is not to be buried nor left on the ground.

We ended up staying at the Dragon Fly camping area, and it was wonderful! Lots of space with a well-maintained fire pit and picnic area, and the spot has easy access to the Colorado Trail. This is a great place for when the leaves change, and we loved seeing the alpacas and dogs. Debbie was a great host and had everything planned at her welcome center at the gate when we came in. Would definitely recommend.
Everything about our trip was perfect- Debbie's directions made finding the site as easy as possible. The site itself was well maintained, had a firepit, tables and chairs, and was surrounded by trees and beautiful views. Debbie was an excellend host and checked in on us to make sure we were set with everything we needed. It was the peaceful retreat we needed, and I hope we can visit again soon!
Paradise found at rustic creek!
Rustic Creek Ranch is a tremendous spot for tent campers! Debbie is a fantastic host and the herd of alpacas and llamas make the experience uniquely enjoyable. Excellent campsites available throughout the property, with direct access to the Colorado Trail. Highly recommend!
We stayed at the hill too number #2 and it was incredible.
Views are breathtaking, the alpacas are so friendly, place is clean and well set, and Debbie is an amazing host. We’re definitely going back soon.
Oh my god! This place is amazing!! All the spots are well spaced out. We were back in the back valley and had so much room. The alpaca's and the pony came by every morning, and the farm dogs came by periodically. Debbie was so nice. Such a great host. I have already told my friends to go here.
Beautiful location! Friendly owners and porta-potty's were accessible. Close to hiking and beautiful wild flowers. We were able to hike up and camp further from the road which was wonderful. Would definitely go back and recommend for a weekend away.
Two nights: alpacas, llama, pony, dogs, horses, hawks, woodpeckers, blue jays, wildflowers, beautiful views, and privacy. I can’t think of a better way for three children to be introduced to camping. Debbie is the most gracious host; generous with her time and her animals; our kids even got to feed her herd! Everyone left asking, when can we return?
