We came here after our orignal plans fell through coming from Texas. Dusty was very friendly and helpful with any questions. We planned on setting up our camp but due to it being 1030pm when we arrived, we decided to stay in the teepee Dusty offered and let me tell you - AWESOME EXPERIENCE! It did start snowing and got pretty cold but with the Heater it helped massively. Do make sure to at least bring 1 decent sleeping bag just in case the heater has issues or the bottle freezes and it won't fully turn all the way up. (Nothing anyone can do about that, didn't happen but things to consider/prep for)... but for the price and simplicity of the location definetly recommend to others and if we are ever driving thru this location again this will always be an included stop in my travel plans.

Camping in the Teepee was an unforgettable experience. Highly recommend! Will definitely stay again!a
And the host are the most amazing people you can meet!
What an ideal Hipcamping spot, country camping in the midst of town, and Dusty was wonderful with his communications. Highly recommended.
Nice setting on the banks of the Purgatory River. Wonderful listening to the wind in the trees. Feels like being in wilderness. If light sleeper and do not enjoy traffic noise bring ear plugs to ensure a good nights rest.
We loved our stay at Purgatory Riverbottom. It was so nice to be able to stay in town yet camp at the same time. We were able to walk and ride our bikes into town and experienc all the conveniences of that. Dusty was so friendly and we were very appreciative of the opportunity to camp on his land. There is a port a potty, our site was almost perfectly level, they are all right near the river, and you are looking right up at the illuminated Trinidad sign! Thank you Dusty for the awesome stay. We hope to stay here again for a future trip.
This is an amazing campsite. Dusty, the host, was the most accommodating and generous fellow I've yet to meet running one of these (and I've been to quite a few over the years). The different sites are sufficiently rugged to get the full camping experience while being right there in the city. You really feel like you're way out in the woods while down in the camp grounds, but just a short (2-3 minute) hike from the parking area, and then another couple minutes to the closest gas station, or whatever else you might need in Trinidad. The occasional train or siren is the only thing to give it away, otherwise you feel like you're in the country. I cam across a medium doe and a LARGE fox while hiking the trails. The water is great to wade around in if you're hot (not deep enough to properly swim), and the little pools were fun to lounge in. 10/10, will definitely be going back.
