There is a large central meadow with a pond and sun deck, a babbling creek and a community fire pit (YOU MAY GATHER DEAD AND DOWN FIREWOOD WHILE SUPPLIES LAST AS LONG AS THERE IS NO FIRE BAN). A clean outhouse is centrally located. Papa T's is only 5 miles from downtown Salida and 2 miles from Arkansas river access, but feels much further away. Papa T is a helpful host with advice about restaurants, local hikes, fishing, boating, and other outdoor pursuits.
It is unusual to find a 22 acre parcel of wooded land this close to Salida. We feel lucky to be here and have made many many memories sharing this special spot with friends and family over the years. We're going to try this Hipcamp thing and see how it goes sharing our place with like-minded strangers. We hope you won't be strangers for long!

Great stay on a beautiful property! Talmage goes above and beyond to make sure his guests have a great experience.
This was my first experience with Hipcamp, and without knowing what to expect, I was a little hesitant to book a site. I sent Papa T a message to ask questions, and within a minute he called me back. We had a 10 minute conversation in which every question was answered. He went out of his way to make sure our stay would be as perfect as it could be.
My wife and I, along with our 4 and 6 year old boys, spent 5 days and 4 nights at Papa T’s in our popup camper. The site we were given was spacious, clean, private, and was exactly what we needed. Papa T’s as a whole is great! The creek, the pond, the fire pit, the tree house, the night sky, the resident owls, and even the outhouse were all above our expectations!
My family will absolutely stay with Papa T again and again! In the short time that we were there, we felt as though we had made a friend in Papa T. He is kind, soft spoken, friendly, accommodating, and a caring. He treated us like family and went above and beyond to make our boys’ experience (as well as ours) as good as it could be.

This place was set up perfectly. The wood chips for camp tenting was great to keep the tent clean. The out house was super clean. Talmage had great communication for instructions. Awesome place!!
From sleeping to the sounds of the flowing creek to waking up to sun shining over the mountains, Papa T's is the place to be. The communal fire pit was a perfect way to end the night with making s'mores and listening to the wind rustle through the trees. Having the pond so close to our site made a great spot to look at fish and read a book on the patio. With a perfectly clean bathroom and an amazing host, there is no doubt that we will be coming back to this beautiful retreat.
