This campsite has an incredible view of Mt. Shavano. It's located on top of a mesa with sounds of the north fork of the south Arkansas River each night and just a short hike away. There are easy trails on the property where you can hike and view wildlife-many birds, chipmunks, deer, occasional elk, and even a free-roaming llama! The property backs up to the San Isabel Nation

The property backs up to the San Isabel National Forest for miles of additional hiking and biking trails right from the property.
It's a stargazers' paradise with little-to-no light pollution. Often times, you can see the Milky Way at night.
The property owners live here, but want you to have as much privacy as you'd like. This is a place to retreat and enjoy the beautiful Colorado outdoors.
Dive into a little bit of history and see the remnants of Ute Native American graves and the original 1880's Maysville cemetery-a once-thriving mining town located on the southern side of the property.
This property is nine miles from downtown Salida and nine miles to Monarch Mountain.
There are tons of summer outdoor activities nearby such as white water rafting, mountain biking, kayaking, paddleboarding, fishing, hiking, and a zip line & ropes course. There is an available paddleboard onsite (with an optional outfitted converted van) for an additional expense. Winter outdoor activities nearby include skiing, snowboarding, and tubing at Monarch Mountain, snowmobiling, and backcountry skiing.
O' Haver Lake is 12 miles/15 minutes from the property and is a wonderful place to enjoy non-motorized water sports, hiking and fishing.
If you're up for a 4x4 challenge, you can drive 10 miles up CR 240 for beautiful views and water activities at the North Fork Reservoir. It's a very difficult drive, but worth it!

Great campsite. It felt similar to camping on public land but without the crowds, mess and noise. The best kind of camping!
Great campsite, very well maintained with awesome views.
Beautiful, private and remote off the grid space. Put away your phone and enjoy the bird watching. We did not get to meet our hosts because we arrived late.
Gorgeous site with spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and the stars. Mars and Ash were super responsive via text and helped with all my questions. Nearby Salida is a fun town with the arkansas river rushing through it and you can rent tubes and float through the rapids.
Stargazer Lane at Monarch Retreat is an ideal location for campers seeking privacy, access to trails, and terrific views of the night sky! Mars & Ash are super friendly and welcoming hosts who made our stay even more comfortable with a picnic table for our campsite. Bring a tent or canopy for shade during the day.

Great little place and very nice hosts. Wish we hadn't been just flying through to another destination, I think it would be nice to stay a couple nights, try their coffee, do some hiking and paddle boarding!
This place is a gem! Mars responded quickly, directions were right on, the site was well maintained and the scenery was spectacular! They obviously want their guests to feel welcome. There was plenty of privacy. In fact, we didn't realize there were as many others camping in the area until we went down the road farther. We took home a bag of coffee, too! I'll be staying here on my next visit and hope to enjoy more of what the area has to offer.
Loved our stay. Views of Shavano are fantastic and the solitude was our favorite! Quiet and peaceful.
