Large cottonwood trees surround the area.  There is a gas firepit and a couple Adirondack chairs nearby to sit and relax or roast some marshmallows.

Antique farm equipment is scattered around, and the barnyard is so close the rooster may wake you up in the morning. The hike to the river is about a quarter mile on the road that goes through the ranch.

This was one of the first ranches established in this valley. In 1863 a French man named Francois Mayol, hence "Frenchman's Creek", homesteaded here where the creek runs into the river. He raised beef, pigs, potatoes and other produce that he sold to the miners living at Cache Creek. His place was also a stop for stagecoaches heading to Leadville. He, his first wife and a child are buried in a small gravesite by the creek.

We loved Belinda and Todd's campsite. It's thoughtfully set up next to a fire pit we could use since fire band have been in place. My kids loved exploring the farm and watching the farm animals. We enjoyed a short hike to the AK river and watching the fly fisherman. The whole experience was great and we'd definitely love to come back!

Lovely, informative hosts, amazing mountain views, pleasant hike to the gorgeous river front, fun variety of farm animals, clean toilet and shower! This sweet shaded spot was perfect for a weekend camping trip with our teardrop trailer. Good eats and museums in nearby Buena Vista and Leadville.

Thank you again to the lovely host of Frenchman’s Creek Ranch, Todd and Belinda. They welcomed us on their property, chatted with us and got our picnic table all set up. We had a lovely stay. We went for a little walk towards the Arkansas river and it is beautiful. The camp has everything we needed and more. It has electrical, water hookups, washroom and sewer disposal. We highly recommend Todd and Belinda at Frenchman’s Creek Ranch.

Frenchman's Creek Ranch is magic and Todd and Belinda have done a service opening it up to visitors. We camped by a pleasant meadow at the entrance of the ranch with plenty of mature trees, water and all the services for our Airstream (water, 50 amps, sewer).

There are miles of ranch roads and trails and aspen groves to explore (and we did both on foot and MTB), not that you'll want to do anything other than take the lovely walk to some of the best and most dramatic stretches of the Arkansas river which run through the ranch.

As if the natural beauty and setting were not enough both Todd and Belinda are just absolutely lovely humans and gracious hosts who have equipped visitors with restrooms, showers, propane fire pits (safety first) and picnic areas to boot.

We're already planning our next visits.
