So much more than expected
We camped for two nights with two small children and it was the highlight of our Colorado trip. Slept under beautiful old pine trees. Absolutely no sound at night except the occasional rustling of leaves - what a luxury these days. Greta the sweet Pyrenees dog hiked with us in the morning (and even led the way back when we got a little far our), Lulu the goat greeted us at lunch, and our daughters played with a litter of kittens for hours. The amenities are basic in the best way - outdoor solar shower, community kitchen with wood stove and dish washing, lots of climbing structures and swings for kids. Even a small zip line. Walking through the garden area is lovely. Our hosts were so gracious with their time and made sure we felt welcome. I cannot recommend staying here enough.
1st time visitor
It was quite, cute, away from noise population, camping area was shady and the Host had good communication.
The camping area and property throughout did not have bright lights so you it was nice and dark. Perfect for a good nights sleep. I advice go locate the shower and water spout during the day with plenty of light versus in the dark. It will take 30 mins from HWY 12 with visible Mile markers at night. The Earth Mtn sign is between Mile Marker 14 & 15 (Host will send directions). Half the way to the farm is paved and the rest is dirt road. Short sedans are fine to drive up there but drive slower so you don't have too much noise from the road under car. The closer you get to the property the less signs You’ll see so make sure you copy those directions because there wont be signal in that area.
Arrived as campers, left as family!
Wow! If you do not book with Earth Mountain Education Farm, you are truly missing out! We origianlly booked for two nights, but extended for an extra night and then wished we could have stayed longer. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted and and treated like part of their family. The camping spots are just perfect and secluded. The amount of fun activities for kids .. we even got to milk a goat. And... we were lucky enough for our daughter to be there for the Mountaineers Camp. Thank you Joni, Willow, and all the others for making our trip an unforgettable one. Our plan is to return back in August, and we cannot wait!
Mountain farm fun
Earth mountain is a beautifully unique camping experience. Upon our evening arrival, the residents of the farm were just sitting down to dinner in their outdoor kitchen. The rustic kitchen is where the potable water is and we were welcome to do our cooking there when they were not using it. There was a new litter of adorable kittens that roamed the kitchen freely (this was one of my daughters favorite things about camping here). Willow and Joni walked us up to where we could park our car and Willow showed us the campsite options. A large dog and goat followed us on the tour. Our campsite was a short walk up the hill from the kitchen and the paths through each site were lit with solar lanterns. There was a port a potty near the farthest site. Each spot had its own lush nature and the ground was pretty flat, however there was an anthill on the one we were recommended so we switched to one closer to the tipi and kitchen.
Since it is a working farm and education center, Joni did have a group of kids and parents there on the morning of our departure. We weren't feeling too prepared to have our kiddo join in the morning hike since we hadn't had breakfast yet. None of us were quite ready around 8-9am. We did enjoy the kitchen space and the conversations we had with the open hearted people there. My kiddo was still able to help make tortillas and hang out with the other kids a bit.
We were able to use the awesome outdoor shower after packing up all our gear and were refreshed for the next leg of our adventure. We stayed longer than we thought we would because the environment was so welcoming, but not as long as we would have liked. I would recommend staying here multiple nights and to inquire if there are activities going on there during the time of your stay. Their schedules seem pretty go with the flow so having your own flexibility is helpful. This place and people are awesome. I would love to stay again and I hope more people give off grid living a try and maybe even go off grid themselves. It's really a magical space.
No (cell) service? no problem!
Wonderful little farm and folks, tucked away in the mountains. I had a great time getting to know the host a little as well as my own peace and quiet time to reflect and just be. I felt free to join in on activities on the farm, or do my own thing! Very welcoming hosts and campsite.
