Imagine the perfect experience... in the morning you see ancient Puebloan ruins while riding a horse on our guided trail rides or hike Sand Canyon trail on your own, then enjoy an afternoon of wine tasting at the local vineyard 1 mile away, and in the evening come back to your cozy camp wagon to enjoy seclusion under dark, starry skies.
Our shepherd camp wagons are cute and unique. Wagon #1 is a modern build on traditional running gear and Wagon #2 is an authentic antique wagon from the early 1900's on modern running gear. They each have a full size bed that sleeps two with a pull out table and built in seat benches. They have Dutch doors and windows which can be opened to provide airflow and natural light. Inside outlets are provided for basic charging needs. A private, outside sitting area is next to each wagon to enjoy sunrises and sunsets.
*AMENITIES: Running water, fire pit, picnic tables and shower house/toilet are located in the campground but not in/at the wagons.
*PETS: Camp Wagon #1 allows well behaved pets but Camp Wagon #2 is not pet friendly due to the antique value of the wagon.

My boyfriend and I stayed 1 night and it was awesome!! The owners were super nice and accommodating. The wagon was clean, and well kept. We had our own little sitting area outside and got to enjoy the beautiful Southern CO sunset and use their firepit to cook our supper. Would totally recommend if you're looking to get away to some peace and quiet and are ok with being semi off the grid (running water within walking distance).
This was an amazing experience and I would highly recommend it to anyone considering! The hosts were very responsive and made check in easy despite the spotty reception. The pictures don't do it justice -- the wagon was cute and clean, and the views from the campground are amazing. Communal areas were also very well maintained. I highly recommend a hike to see the nearby ruins right next door!
Cute wagon with enough space for two average sized adults to sleep comfortably. Loved the expansive views of the Ute Mountains, Canyon of the Ancients, and archaic structures from the Navajo tribes.
Outdoor kitchen is great with the propane stove and cookware for use. It's too bad there was a fire ban in effect, it would have been great to use the fire pit in the evenings.
Truly a unique experience—I felt like I had my own private oasis in the shadow of Sleeping Ute Mountain. I could see so many stars at night and loved the drive out from town to the wagon. It was in the 90s while I was there, so the two fans provided were a big help cooling the wagon down. I slept peacefully and loved all the homey touches inside. Nice, clean bathroom with shower just across the way and plenty of outdoor seating (even a shaded eating area) to relax and eat at. Perfect location for visiting Canyons of the Ancients. Very friendly and communicative hosts.
Shepard wagon stay
Rodney's Shepard Wagon was a wonderful place to be for a night on my drive out to New Mexico. It was comfortable (and hot!) but nighttime it cooled down. There was a little rustic kitchen set-up for those who wanted to cook meals. And the views were great! Energy from the land was really buzzing through my whole being. There are ruins everywhere around that place. The energy of the ruins + the heat combined was really intense for me because I was feeling under the weather, but your experience could be different. That's just me though, I am extra sensitive to energy. But Rodney's daughter was very kind as to go out of her way to do a late check-in with me because I somehow missed the arrival time instructions. Thanks for letting me still check-in, and thanks for the stay. Overall, a good stay!
Unique and cozy stay!
Such a cute & unique stay! I loved the entire property, from the the cool wagons to the community fire pit and kitchen. Lots of hiking around the property as well as the Canyons of the Ancients National Park just down the road.
This place exceeded all expectations! The Wagon was absolutely darling and so cozy and warm, and the tent site we had was the softest on which I'd ever slept. The camp kitchen and fire pit area were set up so nicely for any need one might have and the shower and restroom were clean and spacious. The views were amazing and hiking opportunities outstanding. Rodney, Jessica, and Joe were kind and helpful hosts and very knowledgeable about the area. They were communicative and worked outside the box for an unexpected change we had in our plans. My husband and daughter did a trail ride with Jessica, my daughter's first ever, and Jessica was so great with her. We will definitely be coming back to stay and recommend it to all.
