Camp Kush is located in the Great Sage Plain at the edge of the Colorado Plateau in the shadow of Mesa Verde National Park with panoramic mountain/mesa views of the Four Corners region, all only 5 miles southeast of Cortez.
We have private couple’s or family cabins, shared hostel-style cabins with bunk beds, tent and vehicle sites, a community kitchen, a covered event space, vault toilets and hot showers.
Camp Kush is in an arid desert climate. Water is scarce, stored in cisterns for use in camp. Because of this we ask that you bring your own bedding and linens, your own drinking water & limit water use in camp. We won't leave you without though! Please ask for whatever you need- we've got you covered.
We are a cannabis friendly destination & are inclusive! Cool folks of any ethnic background, national origin or religion as well as hippies, freaks and queers are all welcome here!
We're happy to give you the local's only hook-up to find hikes, ruins, swimming holes, lakes/rivers, hot springs, tacos, coffee, cannabis, a spot to rent kayaks, bikes- you name it! Just ask.
There are so many things to do/see nearby: Mesa Verde National Park, Canyons of the Ancients, Hovenweep National Monument and Phil's World. Raft down the Dolores river, maybe rent an SUP or kayak and chill on a quiet reservoir. There are several museums and cultural centers in the area as well.
Durango and Telluride are each about hour away, and Moab is about 2.5 hours away-including Arches and Canyonlands National parks.
The best/nearest airport is in Durango, and the nearest large international airport is in Albuquerque.
*In response to Covid-19 Camp Kush will be OPEN, taking the following precautions:

Jen and Amy gave me detailed directions shortly after I booked. I was easily able to find the place, and I liked the seclusion of the site. Jen and Amy came out to greet me and give me the run-down of the camp. The campground is a former church youth camp, which I found charming. The hot shower was excellent. The site was clean and quiet. Thanks again!

My stay at Camp Kush was so incredible. Being in a hostel setting is so nice, especially when I am traveling alone right now. We hung out in the kitchen forever and had so many great chats. The crew was lovely and Jen and Amy are spectacular hosts. The property itself is so neat, quiet with well done spaces. The showers were out of this world! With Mesa Verde right next door, there are great daytime activities. I ended up going to Indian Creek the morning after my stay, which wasn't too far either. Look forward to returning to this spot one day.

We loved staying here! All the amenities plus a view to die for. A really lovely area and Jen and Amy were very accommodating hosts. Would definitely stay again!
Jen & Amy went beyond expectations to ensure a comfortable stay at Camp Kush Sunset/Sunrise. Both the hostel and campsite were spacious and clean and the views of the mountains on the horizon were amazing. I would gladly stay here again.
It was great! Jen and Amy were warm and welcoming. The site had everything we needed -- hot, high-pressure showers and a communal kitchen with fresh eggs and all the supplies we needed to cook the food we brought. We met so many great people, too!
It is super windy, so if you're tent camping, consider a low profile tent or heavy duty stakes for sure.
It was a relaxing and peaceful stay. We'd definitely return and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to others.

Absolutely amazing! Will stay again, quiet beautiful place, super accommodating hosts and breakfast for that price? Outstanding!!
We can recommend this to anyone. It's not that far from the town yet it's spacious en quiet place with a great view.
We has a fantastic stay at the sunset campsite. As the evening sun sank below the mountains the sky turned an incredible shade of pink. Once the sun had set a thick damp breeze began to push a lightning storm across the southern mountains. Our personal show, I still get goosebumps remembering the way the wind felt. The storm hung around for hours before it began to rain. At this point we were nestled in our tent, we decided to set up under the structure provided as it had felt like rain earlier, Jen informed us that there was usually an afternoon storm (in the summer I'm assuming). Camp Kush sits on an eastern slope of the valley, the view west is incredible. In the morning as the sun rose we sat drinking coffee being absolutley floored, in the distance it looked as though there was a small river bed/ canyon. I am definitely coming back to explore this landscape. I highly recommend staying here. Bonuses included hot showers, nice clean bathrooms with a sink, kitchen fully stocked with pots and pans there were even snacks, and an observation deck.
