Campsite is open for the 2022 season!

Campgrounds, people, noises, regulations, things you won't find here.

You will find happiness, peace, the sound of the winds in 3000 year old trees, alpine streams tricking through ancient untouched forests, great horned owls and moose calling into the night, coyote echoing at sunset signaling night approaching, the warm smell of pine and summer grasses, touching the warm rocks next to the stream while you listen to the birds and crickets. I could go on and on, these are the things I see when I close my eyes and think of this place.

This site sits at the base of (2) 14ers. There are miles of 4x4 and atv trails. There are countless hiking trails for day and short nature hikes. Above the site sits bristlecone pines that have appeared in ansel adams prints and are absolutely amazing. The sites sit on 160 private acers which borders national forest. There are numerous goldmines ancient cabins and abundant crystals littering the site.

There are lots of amenities on site.  There is a 2 picnic table pergola with 10'x12' waterproof awning.  There is a bbq, bbq smoker, bear box, fire pit and bucket toilet.

The site sits on a small bluff that overlooks a huge meadow with the Fairplay valley below.

Being on a bluff this site may be dangerous for small children.

The road into the site was graded last year but still has small potholes typical of a Colorado county road.  There is a low spot and a small stream crossing.  its easy to cross and most low-profile cars will do fine.  During the highest water runoff its not very deep maybe 4".  If you have a rv or camper, I would suggest something smaller than 20' unless its a off-road or higher profile camper.

Things you will need to bring:

Tinfoil for the grill and smoker.

Toilet paper, thick trash bags to pack out trash and human waste.

Propane.  Standard 20lb bottle, NOT small green. (for the fire pit, bbq, smoker)

Drinking water. You can filter water from nearby stream.

Bug repellant and sunscreen.

Chairs for the fire pit.

Lighters for the fire and grill.  The long ones work the best.

Second time here and we loved every bit as much as the first. Our Dog thinks it's her vacation. It was so quiet and peaceful and the stars at night were amazing. Love it love it love it. Love hiking around the beautiful Bristle Cone Pines. The wild flowers are amazing. We will be back again! Kevin is so great and easy to communicate with!

This was a beautiful place to camp. Kevin’s directions to find the site were spot on and the campsite had some great amenities- like the picnic tables with the awning over them and grill. He gave us some great tips for hikes on and near the property. The Bristlecone pines up on the ridge were amazing to see!! Beautiful, quiet setting to camp!

Beautiful site. Well thought-out perks with lights and cover and smoker.

Long drive in but very worth it.

Nice spot. I'd recommend a tarp if you are going up in the winter to add a wall of protection from rain/snow. You are nearly at the tree line so it gets windy (looks about 11,300'). Make sure to account for your elevation above Alma when checking the weather.

What a beautiful place to stay. The aspens were turning gold in the valley below, and the mountains soared in all directions. We saw elks and a jackrabbit on the way up and moose in the meadow below the campsite. We hiked up out of the campsite toward the mountain tops in front of us -- spectacular views.

It was dark and raining when we arrived, so we really appreciated the pergola and solar lights.

We will definitely be back!

Very peaceful. We saw only a handful of people around the whole time. You can hike up two 14ers in the same day from the camp spot if you want. The trails aren't the best as they're off-road trails but we didn't see anyone driving up them in the time we were there so it wasn't bad. The grill is super convenient and the fire pit, while certainly not as nice as having a real campfire, was a great thing to have during the fire ban. We would definitely stay here again.
