Bright Star Camoground is located in the shadow of Mesa Verde National Park with panoramic mountain/mesa views of the Four Corners region, all only 5 miles from Cortez.

We have private couple’s or group cabins, shared hostel-style cabins with bunk beds, Tipis, tent and vehicle sites, a stocked community kitchen, a covered event space, vault toilets with sinks/running water and hot showers. We also make a perfect “event grounds”!

Bright Star Campground is in an arid high desert climate. Water is stored in cisterns for use in camp. Because of this we ask that you conserve water use in camp.  Bedding/Linens are provided for Cabins.

We are a cannabis-friendly destination but also family friendly! Cool folks of any ethnic background, national origin or religion are all welcome here!  BrightStarCamoground is not a late-night party place.  In the Summer and early Fall, we may occasionally have live music until Sunset :)

There are so many things to do/see nearby: Mesa Verde National Park, Canyons of the Ancients, Hovenweep National Monument and Phil's World. Raft down the Dolores river, maybe rent an SUP or kayak and chill on a quiet reservoir. There are several museums and cultural centers in the area as well.

"Cortez Eatz" delivers to Camp Kush from local Cortez restaurants.

We are located just outside of Cortez on a surfaced gravel road. You really need a vehicle to get the full Colorado experience as public transportation is scarce...and the land, vast!

Durango is 45 min and Telluride is 1.5 hr drive.  Moab is less than 2.5 hours away-including Arches and Canyonlands National parks. Phil's World Mountain Biking Trails is TEN MINUTES away.

The best/nearest airport is in Durango (airport is 1 hr 20 min), and the nearest large international airports are in Albuquerque & Salt Lake City.  However, Cortez Airport has options, see below.

CORTEZ AIRPORT:  15 min to  Camp Kush---Boutique Air currently provides commercial flights to Denver International Airport and Phoenix Sky-Harbor International Airport.  You can book a flight to Denver or Phoenix then a commuter on Boutique Air to Cortez

We felt comfortable, welcome and free in our chapel group camp. The kids loved the playground, camp cats, and observing the local prairie dog families. We enjoyed stargazing on the observation platform at night and using the kitchen pavilion for gathering, playing games and cooking together. Everyone was we met was easy going and kind. The showers worked well and anywhere we went we were surrounded by glorious views of the desert mesas. This place has great vibes!

Hanging out in the pavilion.Sunset from the chapel.Beautiful high desert land. Views for dayyysss.

The most amazing hosts. Incredible views in every direction. Running water in the bathrooms/and the shower was actually amazing. My dog loved running around in the chapel and having her own space. Hosts are incredibly fast with responses. I had some unexpected wildlife encounters and I texted the host and they were there in a flash to help me out. Looking back, I feel a little silly about contacting a campsite host about encountering wildlife while camping, but they went above and beyond to make me feel safe. 100% recommend.

Camping in the time of covid Jen made us feel safe and welcome while applying social distancing. A dream site for dog parents because the chapel is in closed by a wooden gate. The kitchen facility is well thought out and so much more than you would expect from a campsite. The directions to get there are perfect, If you feel like you’ve gone to far keep going and they’re right! The remote location has a huge payoff though the stars are out of this world. The observation deck is a vacation in itself I cannot recommend this site enough.
