Beautiful mesa mountain top
Beautiful part of the state to camp in. Very quiet. Please watch for grouse on the drive back to the camping area as I saw several moving through the grass.
I'd bring your own water as the pump on site is surrounded by thistles and the host suggests boiling it anyway. You're basically dispersed camping but with a compost toilet onsite.

Overpriced and in a grubby state
While I am incredibly grateful to Micah for opening up his beautiful private property to campers, I did not have the best experience at Mesa top. The good part about this site is that the area is gorgeous, and it is private/isolated. However, when my friend and I pulled up, we were disturbed by a couple things:
- the bleached animal bones hanging from a tree (skulls spilling onto the ground in a macabre fashion). I understand if you hunt, but is that really a welcoming sight for your visitors? As two young women traveling, we were unnerved.
- a dilapidated shack that was curiously padlocked (and which through a grubby window we saw brimming from floor to ceiling piles of junk)
- a toilet that was meant for our use, yet was dirty and placed on the tiny, open porch of this crumbling shack.
- Piles of junk lying haphazardly on the property (an old, rusty bedframe, a ship rudder etc.)
-the hipcamp website boasted of "kitchen utensils" for campers use, yet what we found were a number of grimy pots, only to discover they were filled with campfire ash.
- the website also advertised "potable drinking water," yet the water spigot was broken
- Russian thistles cover the land. There was no cleared area to pitch our tent, so we had to settle for sleeping on top of the thistles.
Considering that I paid $75 per night for this campsite, I was more than disappointed by its state. At previous Hipcamp sites I have paid $20 for a clean, well-kept site that I felt safe and welcomed at.

Beautiful mesa mountain top
Incredibly beautiful views and unique space, it’s remote and wound up taking about 40 minutes total to get to from Telluride. The road up to the top of the Mesa from Telluride was steep and pretty scary, my Subaru was fine but just keep in mind. But- super worth it. Gorgeous location and a one of a kind experience staying up there with pretty much 360 Mountain Views!

My partner and I stayed at Micah's site for about a week and we could have easily stayed a month. The property is gorgeous and has just the right amount of seclusion to feel remote! However, it is not too off the grid because Telluride is only a 25 minute drive away and we had cell service (Verizon) at the site. Also, there is a composting toilet and water well on-site which made our stay more comfortable. Overall, this site is beautiful with amazing sunrises, sunsets, wildlife (we saw mule deer and elk everyday) and is a short drive to natural forest trails and hikes.
