COVID-19 NOTE: While campsites are spaced far apart, there is only one bathroom, so please practice safe hand washing/sanitizing, and please practice physical distancing.

Yosemite Garden Camp is on 10 acres of grassy meadows, pine and oak trees, and manzanita chaparral in the lower Sierra Nevada mountains, near the town of Groveland, outside Yosemite National Park.

The property includes a large vegetable garden and a small vineyard, and borders Federal Bureau of Land Management land. Most of the property has sweeping views across the Central Valley to the Coast Ranges to the west. Sunsets are breathtaking. Yosemite National Park, with endless hiking, backpacking, climbing and swimming, is about 1 hour away by car. Even closer are the Stanislaus National Forest and the Tuolumne River. The town of Groveland has some great bars, cafes and restaurants, and a good grocery store.

There is a bathroom shack in the middle of the property with a flush toilet, a sink, and a solar shower. The water is clean and drinkable. There is also a communal fire pit and a communal picnic table.

Tent Site 2 is about 100 feet from the parking area and facilities, below the vegetable garden and above the vineyard. There are several other tent sites on the property, with varying degrees of privacy versus convenience to the bathroom, the fire pit, the communal picnic table and the parking area. Let me know what your priorities are and I can direct you to the best option.

Note that Yosemite Garden Camp is on a very rough dirt road, which gets worse every year and looks like a dry river bed in places, with exposed rock and deep ruts. A higher clearance vehicle is necessary and 4-wheel drive is ideal. Sedans often bottom out on this road and are not recommended. Please drive no faster than 5 mph when going past neighbors' homes.

LATE SUMMER NOTE: During California's peak fire season, the electric utility company (PG&E) sometimes shuts off power to the area to prevent sparks from causing wildfires, especially when the weather is hot and windy. When PG&E shuts off power, the well pump will not run and there is no running water in camp. This only happens a few days a year. I will notify campers when PG&E notifies me, so that campers can bring water for drinking, hand washing and toilet flushing.

We had a wonderful stay here! The site is beautiful and so private. We stayed up chatting and shared dinner with Alex, one of the two hosts living on-site. It definitely is a rough road to get out there but just beware (we made it in a small Prius so you'll be fine!) We unfortunately had to leave a day early because of the wild fires but we're absolutely planning to come back soon and stay here again in the future!

We decided to book this site on our way from SF to Yosemite as a way to break up the drive. The site is beautiful—we woke surrounded by wild flowers and to a beautiful view. The entire camp site is very clean and tidy with cute little extras like fairy lights in mason jars. We also loved the earth flag at the gate. We chose to spend the night chatting with other campers around the shared fire pit. As visitors, it was great to meet locals in such a casual and peaceful environment. We picked up a bunch of tips for our trip to Yosemite and time back in SF. We were sad to leave this beautiful site and we hope to find something similar in Australia :)

Our stay was wonderful! Our group was pretty last minute in booking any sort of lodging before spending a weekend in Yosemite, and Geoff was extremely communicative and accommodating. The bathroom and showers were clean and well kept, the grounds were spacious, and we enjoyed the company of a few friendly dogs. During our stay, Geoff was in the midst of building a pizza oven with his bare hands. Looking forward to coming back and using it! :)

The directions could've been better. I arrived at night and only by chance finally found the place, as I was backing up to turn around and stay at a hotel. My lights just happened to flash on the green gate. The directions didn't even say the place was on the right, which may have been okay during the day, but not at night. Also, if you're going to charge $50 for people to stay, you could at least try to flatten out a space on the slope for the tent. Other than the spot being on a slope, it was a nice set up with the bathroom and communal fire. Amazing view, as well. The property is much smaller than it appears in the photos.

This is a beautiful and secluded campground with gorgeous views and seclusion. Getting to the campsite was an adventure in itself and somewhat tricky. Geoff's directions are accurate but there are not many road signs to back it up. I would highly recommend downloading the map and using that in conjunction with his directions to see street names on your GPS. Also make sure you use a high clearance vehicle! The previous review that mentions coming in a Prius, I do not recommend! There are some steep sections with loose gravel that can be slippery.
Lastly, at site 2 we couldn't find a tent site that wasn't on a slope. Everything near the picnic table is on a slight hill. Would be nice if maybe a flat spot was cleared out?

It was great being super close to town in case you need anything and less than an hour from Yosemite! Geoff was very friendly and the site was great. It was so quiet and peaceful.

I just stayed one night, the view was really nice and the bathroom very clean. Access is not easy and a high clearance vehicle as suggested by Geoff is indeed needed.

We loved staying with Geoff. His hospitality and warmth was one of the highlights of our trip. The facilities are really great (flush toilet, hot shower, filtered water) and the sunsets there are incomparable. We loved hanging out around the communal campfire and playing with his very sweet dog. The whole place is gorgeous and a really great home-base for day hiking in Yosemite. We did make it up and down the hill for 4 days in a Prius--it is doable in summer but was certainly treacherous, I'd recommend a 4WD vehicle that's a little higher off the ground.
