Yosemite Garden Camp is on 10 acres of grassy meadows, pine and oak trees, and manzanita chaparral in the lower Sierra Nevada mountains, near the town of Groveland, outside Yosemite National Park.

The property includes a large vegetable garden and a small vineyard, and borders Federal Bureau of Land Management land. Most of the property has sweeping views across the Central Valley to the Coast Ranges to the west. Sunsets are breathtaking. Yosemite National Park, with endless hiking, backpacking, climbing and swimming, is about 1 hour away by car. Even closer is the Stanislaus National Forest and the Tuolumne River. The town of Groveland has some great bars, cafes and restaurants, and a good grocery store.

There is a bathroom shack in the middle of the property with a flush toilet, a sink, and a solar shower. The water is clean and drinkable. There is also a communal fire pit and a communal picnic table.

Tent Site 1 is a grassy spot under tall pine trees, about 50 feet from the parking area, close to all facilities. There are several other tent sites on the property, with varying degrees of privacy versus convenience to the bathroom, the fire pit, the communal picnic table and the parking area. Let me know what your priorities are and I can direct you to the best option.

Note that Yosemite Garden Camp is on a very rough dirt road, which gets worse every year and looks like a dry river bed in places, with exposed rock and deep ruts. A higher clearance vehicle is necessary and 4-wheel drive is ideal. Sedans often bottom out on this road and are not recommended. Please drive no faster than 5 mph when going past neighbors' homes.

LATE SUMMER NOTE: During California's peak fire season, the electric utility company (PG&E) sometimes shuts off power to the area to prevent sparks from causing wildfires, especially when the weather is hot and windy. When PG&E shuts off power, the well pump will not run and there is no running water in camp. This only happens a few days a year. I will notify campers when PG&E notifies me, so that campers can bring water for drinking, hand washing and toilet flushing.

Although Geoff was outta town during our stay, his on-site staff was super helpful in giving us a quick tour. The directions were super accurate, which I appreciated while navigating those back roads. The site itself is fenced-in, so you feel nice and safe, but located atop a hill so the views are endless. The bathroom + amenities were a welcome comfort while we "roughed it" in our tent. Shared a campfire with other guests and made some friends. It's the perfect outpost if you're making your way to Yosemite in the morning! Which.. we all did. Can't wait to stay here again sometime.

Site 2, overlooking vineyard. Site 1, nice shade and nice fire ring if you'd rather keep it to your own site. Very distracting camp dog, very cute. Hot tub nearly ready

What a fantastic site! We would definitely head back. The site is beautiful (great views and surroundings) and the facilities excellent - hot shower (!) and clean/secure toilet. The drive in is a little rough but mostly just dusty; we took a shiny rental car and apart from it getting filthy it was absolutely fine - just go slow and careful. The site caretaker, Alex, was very helpful and Geoff sent lots of information ahead and during our stay; no problems at all. Thanks for a lovely stay.
P.s./notes/suggestions: the site is about 40 minutes from the Oak Flat entrance to Yosemite and quite convenient. Fuel is (much) cheaper in Big Oak Flat (get a tank full before heading onto/through the park). Food/drink is good at the Iron Door Saloon in Groveland, and you can get all your supplies at the market there too.

This site was the noisiest camping experience I have EVER had. The neighbors have dogs that barked all night long. I camp all the time and can sleep through anything but I was up the entire night. We were also on the site that was furthest from the dogs.

Geoff, the person listed as the contact and owner of the site never returned any emails or texts with questions before or after our visit. We were booked for 2 nights and only stayed one. I was hoping for a refund, I would have settled for an apology.

The girl managing the property was absolutely wonderful and the camping area was stunning. My dog loved having a place to roam free and having a toilet and a shower felt like a real luxury. Those barking dogs though....

The set up that Geoff has is great! Wonderful fire pit with seating, covered eating area, nice bathroom. We really enjoyed our stay, and the sunset over the hills was beautiful. A bit of a trek getting there, but Geoff's directions were very helpful and accurate.

The garden camp was a lovely spot during my stay. The sunsets were beautiful and there was plenty of space to get some privacy if you wished. Everything was as described and although Geoff has not present during my stay he was very responsive when I had questions and his caretakers were kind and helpful. That being said - as Geoff notes in his description...be aware the road to access the camp is VERY rough and takes over 15 minute to go just a few short miles to the main road because you can only go about 4-5 MPH safely (I had a sedan that was lower to the ground than a truck or jeep would be). For those planning to day trip into Yosemite as I did - again be aware that you are just about 90 minutes outside the center of the park where the main visitor center is on the valley floor. Its not a terrible drive but if I had planned better I would've picked a closer location. Regardless - I had a great time and would recommend staying!
