This is socially distanced 'glamping' at its finest! The Wild Rose Bell Tent (formally the Wild Rose Tipi) is totally secluded on our family's private 50 acres. Brand new this year is a larger 'Bell Tent' which provides more space and a more luxurious interior. Nearby The Wild Rose Bell Tent is a treehouse, zip line, river/private swimming hole, and outdoor shower- spend your evening BBQ-ing in the covered kitchen overlooking 500 acres of National Forest and enjoying the s'mores on the propane firepit (wood allowed in the off-season). Dogs and children welcome! You can view more photos and adventures on Facebook and Instagram at @WildPlumas.
Not sure your plans? We get it! If you need to cancel your reservation, we allow✨no-fee✨re-booking, with no time limit. We also offer a discount of 10% for stays of three nights or more.
The Wild Rose Bell Tent is located at the base of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, just an hour from Lassen National Park, Lakes Basin, and over a million acres of National Forest. The Wild Rose is a short walk from several spring-fed swimming holes, and it overlooks the meadows and creeks of the property. Simple but comfortable, the Bell Tent offers 220' of floor space, and offers one queen-size bed (with bedding), with plenty of room for additional sleeping bags on the floor. Outside the tent is a covered picnic table, BBQ, and several additional shaded tent sites. Nearby is an outdoor shower (with hot water)-- offering an on-demand water heater and a view of the Sierra Nevada range. There is also a small treehouse (and zip line) where more adventurous guests are welcome to sleep.
The Wild Rose is secluded, but not "middle-of-nowhere-secluded." Usually, the loudest sounds are the geese, but campers may also hear the train, or sounds from the town of Greenville (two miles downstream). There is also a shooting range about five miles away and some days you may hear noises from that. Otherwise, there are quite a few hike-in meditation or yoga bluffs where you will feel like a world away! The property borders over 500 acres of National Forest that you may also explore, and several secluded swimming holes. If you're on Instagram, you can view more pictures of the property and surrounding areas at @WildPlumas!
Your host family has enjoyed building lots of activities for their own children, which campers may use at their own risk- including a 50' zip line from a treehouse and a ninja warrior obstacle course. You are welcome to bring your pets, but we try to limit our impact on wild animals such as deer and rabbits, so please keep your pups on a leash.
Activities in the area: Fishing or boating at nearby Lake Almanor, or Round Valley Lake, is always popular. We also highly recommend a visit to Mount Lassen National Park (one hour). Drakesbad hot springs is also top on the to-do list!
If you have any questions about other nearby activities, feel free to reach out to us! Otherwise, many of our campers enjoy the simple things- a lawn chair with a good book in the creek, or watching the kids make little pots out of the clay in the pond. Safety first, but we always encourage adventure, playing in the mud, and free-range children. The Wild Rose may not have wifi, and we promise you will never be bored!
Are extra people ok, and is there a charge? Yes that's fine, just no large groups please (for noise reasons). For pricing, please substitute 'tents' for 'people' in the additions as HipCamp does not have the option to add extra tents at this time. The cost is $10 per tent. Any questions, just message me, we can work it out when you get here. (Note: Children do not count in the overall group total so no need to pay extra for them).
Check-in and check-out times: Are 3:00 pm and 10:00 am. Thank you for checking out promptly. We are booked back to back and it does take a few hours to clean the sites.
Is there an extra cost for animals or vehicles? There is a $20 pet fee for dogs ($20 per reservation, regardless of days or the number of pets). We love your dogs and encourage you to bring them, but it does create considerable extra work for us in order to make sure the next guest has a pet-free experience. You can add this fee in the 'add-on' section at check out.
How far are the swimming holes from the tipi? About 1/4 mile walk.
How many people can the camp sleep? Three in the beds, and comfortably five more on the floor.
Are large school groups permitted? For sure! We have hosted up to 50! Just message us for group ideas. We can even offer guided tours of the property and use of the climbing wall.
How do I store food? Storing food in ice chests is fine, although preferred would be in your car. We do not offer bear boxes, but also have not had any reports of critters or bears getting into food (yet). Bears here do not try and get into cars.
Do I need to worry about bears in the Wild Rose Camp? Nope :) If you have any fears, simply place the solar lamp in the doorway, it will scare them. Bears here are frightened of people, lights, and noises.
Any other questions or concerns we are just a message away! Thank you for your interest and we look forward to hosting you this summer.

WOW, wow, wow!!! What a GREAT property; perfect for more than the 4 of us that's for sure.
The site was HUGE, plenty of space to camp, run, walk, rest, sleep, bike, etc. Loved the landscape, the creek and the camp hosts were very kind and sincere. The property was well maintained, the shower was amazing and the portas were clean. LOVED the covered table area: super useful and it provided shade for our morning coffee chit chat before we headed out everyday. IT was HOT but the water areas we went to were perfect.
MaryKay and Eric are the best. They checked in on us and were polite and sincere. Josie checked in on us and was quick to respond to our text message. We felt very safe, taken care of by our hosts and surrounded by beautiful forest.
We ventured out to Lake Almanor and was able to drive right up to the lakeside. There is a little dirt road just as you drive into the main road to get to the boat launch. Look for it; it's on the left, just drive it, across a bike path and you'll be on the lake shore. SOOOO amazing, warm and secure. The water was perfect.
We ventured to Indian waterfall area; it was great until the junior mint crew started taking over at 3pm. My advice: go there on a weekday from 10-3 then get out quickly since school is out and the munchkin crew will pack the area. Go to the left over a large rock and there is a small little semi-private beach right on the water. That's where we landed and spent some time there.
Cannot recommend highly enough. The Tipi is large and beautiful, the hammock, zip line and creek are wonderful. The bed is comfy. The hosts were unbelievably accommodating and kind, providing us with a gas latern, smores, fresh farm eggs, unlimited firewood, cookies and more. They even started the fire for us right before we arrived. They were exceptionally nice and gave us great information about the surrounding areas with fun things to do and also gave us the privacy we were looking for. We did a nearby off road trail that was incredibly fun and then hiked out to an absolutely stunning and emmense meadow in front of mountain reservoir. We came back and took a hot outdoor shower overlooking the mountains. The stars at night and the moon were simply stunning. We awoke in the morning sitting up in the bed and watched deer through the entryway of the Tipi. This weekend on the property was truly a magical experience, even the drive out there. We left with our hearts full, feeling clear and grateful for this beautiful rustic escape from the city life!
We packed up the family to take our first visit to Lassen. It was early in the season, so most of the Lassen campsites were not open yet. I found this listing on HipCamp, which is a super cool site.
Our hosts, Josie and Dan were amazing! About a friendly and helpful as two people can be!
Rather than a campsite that is packed, you get your own private site on their property. We ended up staying in the Tipi which has plenty of room for 4 people and it was a total trip.
The hosts provided water, fire pit and even use of their cool outdoor shower.
It was an easy drive over to Lassen and kept us out of a late snow storm that hit on our last day.
Give this place a try, we will be back to enjoy it again!
Awesome! Especially for first timers like us. Stores/restaurants/gas aren’t so far and yet at the tipi you feel like you are in the middle of nowhere! Josie & family are super friendly, so is their pup Walter! Creek is nearby and you get to meet some bucks in the morning. Drive thru the canyon is also great and it’s not as bad as you’d think. I’d 100% recommend this place to any family!
Feeling grateful after leaving this magical place. The kids and I had an amazing time with all the outdoor activities. Josie and all her family were very helpful, felt welcomed and cared for our entire trip. My family and I will be back to this magical place again!!
Thank you Josie and family for sharing your love with us.....
Wonderful. Nice and private corner of the owner's property. Amazing night skies. We spent most days on the property. The creek offers coolness during the heat of the day and lots of fun for kids. The family provided a 5 gallon igloo for water at the site and it kept the water cool all day. Yes, mosquitos, but not that bad compared to other places I've been too. Lots of honey bees, which I like, but also some yellow jackets. No issues with squirrels or other rodents and our food.
Overall, I hope to return.
A great escape, hosted by a charming family who were mostly gone during the day when I stayed (Monday through Friday) with my friends at the tipi. We played in the creek with our children and dogs, and had tons of fun!
We had an awesome time at Wild Rose Tipi! Josie’s place served as a great home base for exploring Lassen National Park. When we weren’t out adventuring, we enjoyed playing in the creek, stargazing, and petting the donkeys :)
The Tipi is spacious and comfortable. The site feels very private compared to camping in a campground. Josie and her family were wonderful hosts and they also told us about an amazing swimming hole that we visited on our way back home. We would happily stay with them again.
Josie and her family were fantastic hosts! The tipi fit 4 of us adults and our 4 dogs comfortably (which was impressive!). We loved everything about the site and the kindness from our hosts was the cherry on top.
