If you want to just wander in the desert, there's plenty of room. If you prefer a hike in the hills the park is just right there.
Located 20 minutes from a bunch of rocks...like a lot of rocks...so many they made a park.
Plenty of birds and lizards, and the cactii while not very exciting are still fun to look at, plenty of them as well.
Natural features you'll find at Wendy's Kick it Spot - Tent and RV in California.

Wonderful stay! i’ll be back!
I had a great time at Wendy’s! I went when the campsite was very empty because it was still a hot summer, so since I went solo I had the grounds to myself. Wendy and her family were so nice and helpful to me. I was given a site under a shady tree with a hammock, and I spent the weekend just lounging and reading. Her outdoor bathroom and outdoor shower were very charming! It was so quiet during the day and starry at night. I’m definitely going return one day soon!
It’s really lovely place amid of desert. I recommend u to write a list of utensil you need coz in public it can use for everyone, but everything is in her house. I felt sorry to ask her every single time. Wendy is considerable, so she provided me everything iI asked. This place is with shade of tree, so it’s not deadly hot. My 2years boy loved this place coz interior?! here is so cute, n can get along with her dog. Campfire also was great. What u need was inly the tent.
Great for a birthday weekend trip!
We stayed at Wendy's for a birthday weekend getaway and it was exactly what we were looking for. A place off the beaten path where we could see the stars. Really cool setup. Thanks again, Wendy!
Short & sweet - i'll be back soon!
I had a wonderful stopover at Wendy's Kick it Spot on my way home from visiting my sister in Vegas! I arrived about 7pm (later than planned) and left the next morning at 9:30. Since I was just stopping by, I didn't bring a tent. I would suggest bringing one to shelter from winds. I switched back and forth between my car and a hammock for sleep, which didn't bother me for the night. The hammock provided was very comfy. Next time I will definitely bring a tent and stay at least two nights! You can see the love put into this site. One of the main drags of adorable downtown JT is only 20 minutes away.
-Gorgeous giant mulberry tree to seek shelter from sun and wind with a hammock, picnic table, and two sets of seating under it. I think I would request this site again, and maybe set up my tent and a "stargazing bed" away from the main camp for a bit more privacy.
-One of the prettiest, if not THE prettiest sunrise I've ever seen in my life.
-Sunrise yoga is a must if you practice. It was simply gorgeous, and there were tons of places to set up. I would bring or ask to borrow a rake in order to even out the ground a bit.
-Brand new flush toilet stall with plenty of room to change, in addition to beautifully built cold water shower, sink, and adorable cool dip "cowboy pool" (so excited to use this next time)!
-Had a short convo with Wendy in the morning and she was a pleasure, as was the friend who checked me in.
-Location, location, location. It feels like the middle of nowhere, but you are only 15 minutes from any convenience (gas, groceries, shopping, fast food) and 20+ minutes from adorable "downtown" JT and the park. Can't wait to explore the surrounding area next time.
Things to Note-
-Follow the host's directions so you don't get stuck in the sand! Even following this alternate route, there is a two mile maintained but bumpy dirt road, so be prepared for your car to get dusty and maybe take on a few pebbles. This was a bonus for me, just added to the adventure and made it feel more remote.
-There are three adorable campdogs: Dave a small sweet mut who loves pets, Blue a sweetheart blue pit who loves scritches, and Kylo who likes pets and loves running and jumping like a maniac. They all like to sit and stare while you eat, even put a paw on your lap (ahem, Kylo). They are dogs, so there was occasional barking in the morning and a little whining to go outside. Kylo was fixed on something in a tree and barked at it several times. None of this bothered me because I love dogs. If you are not a dog person, or you are looking for 100% quiet the entire stay, this may not be the camp for you. Other than the small bit of barking in the morn, the camp was peaceful and quiet.
-The camp has a lovely laid back vibe. This also meant no posted or emphasized rules. I usually like structure but, it was lovely because the hosts and fellow campers keep it lovely and respect one another. Please keep this going! Because it is a bit unstructured, and Wendy was away when I checked in (I gathered this is unusual) I do wish I had a few questions at the ready. Wifi password, cookware availability, and trailer access were the ones I had. I felt welcome to knock on the door and ask, but chose not to since I was seeking solitude and none of it was essential. There was also enough coverage for me to have data and even briefly use my phone as a hot spot.
-Solar lights light the camp at night, so you don't need to bring a bunch of lights with you. They are dim enough to not affect stars much. There are places away from the main camp that you can stargaze away from the lights. There was one small trailer that had brighter led lights, but again you could go away from this to enjoy the stars. It did however impact my sleep positions a bit in order to avoid the light.
-It's the desert- weather, temp, winds can be extreme and unpredictable, plan accordingly!
Overall, highly recommend, and I'll be back soon!
Wendy's spot is super cool and amazing! So accommodating but yet allowed privacy all at the same time. This place was PERFECT! Wendy is an awesome human :) Would and WILL come back!
Wendy was easy to communicate with! The spot was very well maintained and clean! There weren’t too many ppl camping with us so she let us have a cute lil corner all to ourselves so that was nice :)
We had a great stay here! It's a beautiful spot, very accessible to Joshua Tree, and Wendy was incredibly kind and flexible with our late arrival. The animals were super sweet and fun!
