We had a wonderful time here. Mark was very informative and helpful. He even helped us find a dump station to use when we were finished. The property was just as described. We took our side by sides right out the back gate and explored and were able to let the kids ride around the property on thier own. The kids were able to go exploring the property all by themselves too and had a blast, so did the dog :-)

The only struggle we had was leveling the RV's. Smaller ones would probably be fine but the bigger ones 35' and longer, took some extra time and relocating a couple times to find a flat enough area to get the jacks on the ground, so bring extra blocks.

All in all it was successful fun trip and I would recommend this site to others!

although there are many things to do near this disbursed camp area, my husband and i just wanted some downtime in a private-all-to-ourselves spot, and Wandering Star Ranch gave us just that. it is nestled up against some BLM land with some spectacular 360 degree views of the mountains. we nestled our van amongst some juniper bushes with our van door opening away from the neighborhood below to give us an even more private experience. our evenings were filled with sitting around our camp fire, star gazing and peace & quiet. during the day, we got some exercise walking our dog along the road that leads to the campsite and did a hike up the trail to the top of the small peak (about 20-25 minute jaunt). one of the things we were drawn to was that you can shoot on BLM land so we put together a little shooting range from cans and other stuff we found and had a picnic; we called it “picnic and pistols”. we got great cell service with both AT&T and Verizon, the local grocery at the end of the road (5 minute drive) was great for last minute shopping needs, and the Mobil next to it was great for us as it has diesel gas for our MBZ sprinter van. plenty of fire wood to buy from the host, mark, or gather the dead wood that was scattered around the camp site. mark was a wonderful host—very responsive to our questions and we even got a nice little meet & greet with him. definitely on our list of places to go to more than once!

Mark’s place was exactly what we were looking for!

We brought our macaw, and our friends brought their dog and hawk. The amount of space we had accessible was perfect for all of us. The bathroom was super cleaned and maintained, the boat skeleton was odd but super cool, and the fire-pit had plenty of wood provided, even though we had some of our own already.

Mark was super friendly and helpful the whole way through, even as we were having a last minute urgency come up.

The scenery on the drive up was beautiful. We were close enough to drive to a very nice river hike, the local place we picked up lunch one day was very good, and right next to the site was a decent hill with an absolutely worthwhile view at the top.

We would absolutely stay here again!

We enjoyed our weekend here! My wife and I introduced some friends to dry camping with their trailer and we all definitely enjoyed having some space to ourselves instead of being in a packed campground. It was well worth the extra money to have some elbow room, and we especially enjoyed that there is a back gate to public BLM ground for hiking, exploring, and plinking. We only brought two trailers, but there was room for many more, just bring plenty of leveling blocks.

We were lucky enough to get to stay at camp shred over the memorial day weekend. There were 3 families in our party 11 people 2 dogs total and every person and dog alike had a great time.

This place worked out wonderfully, we all had trailers and were able to spread out and have some space/ privacy while also still having space to meet and share fires and meals with tons of room to roam both on the property and behind in the BLM land just out the other gate.

We had great views of the valley below, gorgeous sunrises, sunsets and star filled skies for our sky gazers.

Bring your dogs, Mountain Bikes, Hiking Shoes, Dirt-bikes or ATVs because all that is right there on and off the property.
We used it to hike, play, ride bikes, head to the Kern river about 30-45 min away depending on how far you want to go, stargazed, set up baby pools and relax without having a ton of neighbors at the next campsite over.

The host: Marc was amazing, super helpful, really nice and extremely responsive to my questions (having never been to the area before). He responded to questions and directions in a timely manner and generally went out of his way to make our stay great.

I have nothing but wonderful things to say about this trip and many in our party are already to plan the next at this site.

It does get hot so have your generator and plenty of water!

dusk was time to set up some solar lights for our path so that the kids could play long into the dark.Right out this back gate behind our trailer was tons of BLM wide open space! Bring your mountain bikes, ATVs, Dirt Bikes would be AWESOME, hiking boots and dogs! lots of fun to have out this gate.the dogs loved every second of their time and not having to be on a leashSunrise was also gorgeous

This site is in a beautiful location, nestled at the end of a dirt road, elevated above the small neighborhood below, with spectacular views up and down the valley. We just had our van and small Airstream so had our choice of potential spots. We picked one that required a decent amount of leveling, but had 360 degree views. If it had been hotter, we probably would have chosen one of the other ones that are next to juniper bushes for a little shade.

This location would be great for a group with a handful of small to medium rigs (like ours) that are capable of being off-grid. There is also one spot in particular that would work very well for a large rig and wouldn't need much leveling.

From this property, it was just 20 minutes into Kernville, so very convenient if you need to go into town. However, it was absolutely perfect for us since we prefer to camp with some solitude and open space around - this was quiet and peaceful, and our two dogs had a great time running around!

This is the perfect place to set up your basecamp and to be off the grid! You have plenty of room to spread out and enjoy the peace and quiet. We enjoyed the sunrise and sunsets with our 360 view of the mountains. We have a family of 5 energetic kids and one young dog, so this was the ideal place because there were no other people to bother. The kids and the dog could roam free!
Each day, we adventured out and enjoyed what Kern county and the Sequoia National forest have to offer. Here are some of the things we did during the day:
- We hiked the 7 teacups trail.
- Fished the Kern river which is open year round. Caught some nice trout!
- Visited the Silver City Ghost town. It’s a little beat up and corny, but the kids loved it.
- Window shopped in Kernville. Being from Los Angeles, is was nice to experience the small-town flavor.
- Hiked and explored the land behind our campsite. There are miles and miles to explore.
- Star gazed!

We will definitely be back as it was perfect for a weekend getaway. This property is great for large groups. You could easily fit four large families and trailers. Here are some helpful tips to make this enjoyable:

- It’s dry camping so bring everything you need like water, food, generator, etc.
- Plan your day outings. We have T-Mobile and fortunately had reception. We would look up ideas for the family.
- You probably want an SUV too as a high clearance vehicle helps navigate the terrain.
- There are dump stations at many of the other campsites. We called ahead and found a place to dump.
