Site #5 is located under a very historic cherry tree. It was planted in the pioneer era, when this area was a homestead. The tree is at least 130 years old. When in season, there are cherries! The site is in the corner of the campground, giving privacy from the other camp sites. It is somewhat near the road, but since traffic dies down in the afternoon, noise has not been a problem for the campers staying there.

When coming into The Grove campground from the entrance gate, Site#1 and #5 are to your right. Site #1 will be first, and then beyond that- #5. It is the furthest from the entrance gate, along the road side. With a tell-tale old fruit tree being the landmark.

**When you book this site, Hipcamp will tell you that you booked site#1 of "The Grove Site #5". (As it is, this site and site #4, are their own listings due to Hipcamps' data management, so they then also number them the first sites of those listings. It has proven confusing) Rest assured, you have booked SITE #5 of The Grove.

It’s a beautiful spot but quite uneven for sleeping. It’s on the road, muddy in the winter.

The Grove is situated among the rolling hills just north of the quaint town of Tomales. Essentially it is a repurposed grass pasture on the edge of a large ranch, right by HWY 1. The owner was quick to respond to questions. Within the pasture are five picnic tables with plenty of room in between so it doesn’t feel crowded. There is also a pit toilet in a cute little shed. The pasture is not flat. There is a bit of roadbed and gravel right at the entrance gate, but it’s all grass beyond that and My SprinterVan struggled immediately and slid around on the wet grass and slick mud under the grass. There was no way to get anywhere near the site I had selected. The sites are not defined in any way, there is just a picnic table on the grass with a number on it. Cars would have also struggled. Given that they are essentially charging a camping fee in line with those charged locally, I feel there should at least be compacted roadbed with gravel to each site with a small level area at each site for a tent or van. Otherwise it is essentially what is usually called a walk-in tent only area. I ended up parking on the steep bit of gravel right by the gate as there was no one else that night. It is a busy road during the day but VERY quiet and peaceful at night as there are virtually no cars at night. Beautiful views of quiet rolling hills.

The Grove is a beautiful spot, it’s pastoral with rolling green hills and surrounded by farm country. We had a great stay and our dog did too. We camped in December and weren’t prepared for the cold but that is on us. Would definitely stay here again. It’s also close to great restraunts and scenic views.

A beautiful property with the friendliest cat to keep you company! There are lots of cows and pigs that do cow and pig things all night, so beware if you're sensitive to their noises.

It's fine. Gets the job done. Site #4 is best. Hwy 1 is just 20 feet away so it can get loud.

We stayed one night there, it was a large 50 meter by 50 meter large primitive lot with no improvement, at a pretty isolated location, a little scary to stay there in darkness although it has a gate at the entrance. I cut my finger when lifted the heavy gate at night that must be manually open and closed. I do not see it is justified for $45 plus $8 service fee a night.

Great location off Highway 1! Campsite and table are not completely flat but it was still workable.
