Welcome to Sugarpine Slopes. The Sugarpine has the longest cones in the world and many birds and mammals like the pine nuts and use the tree for habitat. This is a spring through fall place only. There is no winter access. The property is at 5800 feet.  Depending on the weather the road may close from Nov 15th to May 15th.

The road on the property is a dirt road.  All wheel drive or 4WD vehicles recommended although the lower section could be accessed by most vehicles. No trailers allowed at this time as there is inadequate turn.

The property is totally undeveloped at this time. It is a wildlife corridor for deer and bear (keep all food contained), the mountain quail and the blue grouse. Keep your eyes open for the Hermit Warbler, Audubon's Warbler, and our gorgeous visitor from the tropics the Western Tanager. You are likely to hear the Pileated Woodpecker and if you are lucky you will see it and its red crest in an undulating flight through the trees. The property has a lovely west facing slope which climbs gradually at first then more steeply to the top of the property. We are starting with camping just on the lower section.  Later we might add walk-in sites towards the top of the property.

There is wonderful hiking nearby with several trailheads in the area within approximately 4 miles.

Troublesome to find and identify the place, description about accessibility of road for non AWD questionable

Helen M. Helen: Dear Uta, Thanks for your feedback. We will work on the signage for the campsites but for privacy reasons, we do not want a sign at the road. I am sorry you had trouble finding the location. And it sounds like you found the road a bit much for your vehicle. We have had our Subaru Outback on it and a friend came in with his sedan with no problems so I figured you would be fine with a rear AWD. I would not take a Prius on it that is for sure. In the directions. the description says a cable, not a gate, so that may have thrown you off if you were looking for a gate. The campsites are numbered at each site. And Campsite 3 is especially easy to find as it has box benches and a welcome note there. But, we will work on making it more obvious. Maybe you did not find campsite 3 but hopefully you found the outhouse and otherwise had a good time out doors! We look forward to future campers and please make sure to save the directions and code before coming as there is no cell reception at the site. Happy camping.

Off the beaten path campground with plenty of nearby activities and hikes (although you will probably want to drive to them). Stayed at site #3 - would recommend 4WD for the bumpy road to get there. Bugs were an issue - bring bug spray! Bring binoculars if you enjoy bird watching - host provides a book! Nice clear campground with spots to pitch tents, hang hammocks, and enjoy the outdoors. Very close to emerald pools, fuller lake, spaulding lake. We spent a whole day hiking "lake spaulding via pioneer trail from Bowmann Road" (all trails) then hanging at emerald pools. Next time we will be bringing fishing poles and SUPs or kayaks for Fuller lake. Our GPS brought us right to location - although spotting the driveway is tricky! Thanks again Helen, we will be back!

We had a great time at Sugarpine Slopes! Our campsite was spacious and it was quiet and secluded. Helen was a great host and left us some water and storage bins. We loved the location and we’re able to explore the nearby lakes and the Emerald Pools on the Yuba River! If we’re ever back in he area we’ll for sure be staying here again!
