Great time. bring boots.
We had a great experience here. Mary is a great host and very accommodating. It's mostly an open lot where you are free to find and make your own campsite. They have a communal compost toilet, outdoor shower, and several charcoal grills (bring to your site as firepit). There are also shaded communal areas that make being in the sun more comfortable but there are enough trees to find shade from the desert sun at your site.
It's a bit more "primitive" of a campsite (no table, no sink to wash up in) than a state/national park campsite but we had enough gear to make it comfortable. Super beautiful sunsets and there's enough space to make it feel private.
Highly recommend for folks who have been backpacking and don't mind some of the missing creature comforts.
I recommend boots for humans and booties for dogs as there are lots of cactus needles and general desert pokey plants everywhere.
Best campsite!! desert oasis!
Wow !! Nightingale Ranch is a desert oasis ! Mary and Euginie were by far the best camping host one could need. Came out by myself from Los Angeles to find a quiet meditative space and was blown away by how much this site has to offer. You are greeted by their pack of lovely dogs who also stuck around the entire camp site patrolling for safety! I’m this way I felt so safe and was not scared of any wild animals coming around. The campsite is huge, and you have the choice of setting up your tent near common areas like the hang out tipi and the horse stables or our in the privacy of the desert property they own. First day there I explored, hung out at the glamping tipi and got the chance to do some yoga on their main wood deck. At night, you are surrounded by a dreamy starlit sky and even found a raised bed platform to lay under the starry sky. Next morning I got to enjoy a hike to a small waterfall, which was only across the road from the ranch! When I returned from the hike I got to indulge in the best shower I’ve ever had outdoors! at this point, it decided to stay an extra night !! Nightingale Ranch is definitely a sacred place to come and center yourself away from city life for you can feel the great energy that has been harvested here!
I will be recommending to my friends 💕⛺️✨
Thank you Mary and Euginie for providing this place🤍
Super amazing people! That was an inspiring weekend for the 4 of us roommates. Their hospitality was so wonderful....highly recommended. The horses were a bonus :)
Loved the shower and views. GREAT hiking trails in a walking distance. We miss the ranch already!
Your money will be going to a good cause if you stay here. They rescue horses and retrain them with LOVE!
We definitely want to come back someday...Thank you Mary and Eugenie for everything!!
A native and natural setting.
Host Mary is welcoming and attentive. The communal areas are enjoyably chill. My cozy campsite was as close to a natural state as could be. While laying back gazing at the first stars twinkling into view an owl softly glided over close enough for an eye to eye. A conversation ensued. Bring your desert identification manual for a bountiful plant community.
Great weekend getaway!
Mary was a great host! Very warm and attentive! The place is well kept, clean, warm, and welcoming! Plenty of room to roam around and hiking trails with beautiful views! Everyone we met was friendly which made the experience better. I do recommend to bring warm clothes and a good blanket or comforter for the night because it can get windy & chilly! Highly recommend, will be back!
3 day's isn't enough
3 Day's isn't enough once you decompress and settle in to the high desert lifestyle. We found the property to be very charming, and fell deeply in under the night sky. I recommend a stay at Nightingale Ranch to any seasoned camper. The stay is more rustic than most, giving you the privacy you don't get at a typical camp site.
Perfect rustic getaway w/ a view
This location is wonderful. Mary has been so accommodating and aimed to give us the most comfortable stay she could. We had such a blast for the night. The sky was beautiful and the horses were gorgeous. It’s the perfect getaway from the city and the daily life routines. It’s super rustic and allows you to experience life down to the basics which I appreciated. If our schedules permitted we would have stayed longer. We will for sure be coming back!
Comfy bed under a blanket of stars!
What a fun night, Mary is the best and Nightingale Ranch & Sanctuary is the perfect getaway location for worry free star-gazing and camping, less than 2 hours from San Diego.
The public areas are well stocked and comfortable in the hot evenings. We took advantage of the doublewide hammock more than once that swings gently in the shade.
We pulled in our 18' trailer and parked on a flat turn-around with lots of room to make dinner and enjoy a private patio overlooking the Anza desert. Shady trees sprinkled throughout the ranch provide loads of perfect tent camping spots on a four acre lot too.
Many thoughtful accommodations made the experience safe in light of the Covid pandemic. Hand wash stations, outdoor showers and sanitizer in key locations to help everyone keep healthy and enjoy their good times.
Horses and other animals on site are just another reason this place is special to me. I look forward to returning to see how the sanctuary grows.
Thanks for the good memories.
Magical mad-lib of camping delight
The Ranch is just about perfect, or at least as perfect as you'd ever want it to be. Mary and her gaggle of animals (both human and otherwise) made camping such a pleasure. You'll feel a freedom to camp where you like and be whom you are. I wouldn't recommend The Nightingale Ranch to everyone, only the people I love the most. :)
