Campers can enjoy the outdoors safely as all of our 5 campsites are in safe distance from each other.  The following are our expectations for safe camping at OYBC during COVID-19:  1) Maintain social distancing guidelines (6ft apart from other guests), 2) come prepared for your camping trip with hand sanitizer, wipes, etc.

Hipcampers, come pitch your tent at one of five Old Yosemite Base Camp drive in and walk in sites. OYBC offers over six acres of pine, oak, and bay trees, sprinkled around large granite features that remind you that Half Dome is not far away! Each unique site is equipped with a stone fire ring with cook top and a picnic table accommodating four person dining. Old Yosemite Base Camp is the perfect place to enjoy the sunset and stargaze next to a campfire after an adventurous day in the southern Yosemite region. Yosemite tent camping without all the crowds and tour buses is what you can expect. Backing up to the Sierra National Forest OYBC is conveniently located near HWY 41 just 14 miles from Yosemite’s south gate entrance. The region also offers a large amount of hiking trails where you can find swim holes, waterfalls giant sequoias, lakes, and rivers. Take 15-minute drive to Bass Lake and enjoy water sports and lake view dining.

OYBC offers five camp sites and all wheel drive is required to get to the top of camp. OYBC sites 1, 2, 3, are drive up sites and 4 & 5 are walk in sites that have a separate parking area. All wheel drive is still needed to get to this lot.

Have a large group? Old Yosemite Base Camp offers discounts for larger parties of up to 25 campers. Message OYBC to reserve the whole mountainside to yourselves!

Great camping spot close to south Yosemite entrance. Campsites are pretty much dispersed so each site has lots of private space. Quiet neighborhood, the road nearby isn't much busy so the noise is minimal. As a downside I'd mention that restrooms are located downhill next to the gate, so each time you'd need to walk down the hill and go up after (but this can also be considered as good exercise :). Overall, we liked staying here, and would visit again.

Very good communication and clear instructions, incredibly clean and spacious site (3 tents fit easily, plus our car). We loved the huge picnic table and prep table for food as well as firepit. The town of Oakhurst is only 10min away, so any supplies (or Starbucks) you need is very close.

The walk down the hill to the bathroom from our site was kind of a pain, but expected because instructions are clear. Some reviews of our site had said there was no shade and lots of yellow jackets, but there was an awning put up over the picnic table so we were fine without tree shade. There was residual smoke from norcal fires so the sun didn’t come out a ton, while we were there, and yellow jackets may have just been subdued but we brought traps as instructed anyway. We definitely enjoyed our stay and will book again!

Be aware, site 5 practically looks into site 1, so if you want more privacy just pick another site but we were also one of 2 cars on the whole mountain and had no one across from us. Thanks to Cassidy for a wonderful stay!

It was great! Pretty clean, we ended up packing some trash out that was left by other campers. The road up to the parking spots are very steep! But non the less a 4x4 will get you up! Lots of wasps, but nothing to complain about! We had a great time!!

Reasonable price for a camping spot close to Yosemite! I wish the public toilet was not so far away but it is camping after all

Nice private campground .
Neighbors down the street played loud music at night .
Didn’t really bother us though .

Home away from home! 15 mins from bass lake and private enough where you don’t feel overcrowded like most camp grounds.

The view from site 1 was awesome but on a clear day without clouds the sun comes down blindingly HOT. Luckily the host was incredibly acomadating and let us know that another site was open. We prepped food and hung out in the shade of another site until the sun went down. Sunsets and sunrises were perfect. It is worth noting that sound travels a lot. You can hear conversations from other camps. One group had a baby and blasted music. They were yards away but it felt like the were in our tent. This is not an ideal spot for big groups unless your rent out multiple spots.

Loved this camp! A 4x4 vehicle is definitely necessary to get up the steep and winding gravel road. The sites were well spaced out and well maintained with plenty of space for separate cooking/dining and sleeping areas. There was even a cool rock slope neck to site 5 that could be climbed for a killer view of the sunset.

Great venue for camping. Very private, loads of space and lovely surroundings. If you're looking for camping by yourself in the wilderness this is it....for those that don't like other campers a few meters away...
