Campsite #5 is in a wonderful secluded location surrounded by redwoods. It has a picnic table and a fire pit. It is far from the main house, bath house, and entrance, so choose this site for its isolation. Be aware that 4x4 or AWD is required to access this site.

- Get directions at the main house or follow the signs if no one is home.

- There is a simple latrine at each site. A full bath house with a flush toilet and hot shower is available next to the main house. A water spigot is attached to the main house.

- There are miles of trails to hike or to ride dirt bikes/mountain bikes on. There is a marked walkable loop around the property that will take about 1 hr 30 min.

- Spare camping supplies are available by the bath house if you forget something! Ask ahead if you need to borrow a specific item.

More about the property: I built my home high upon a southern ridge. Watching the river of coastal fog flow in and out below me is one of the most wonderful views to behold! I have 30 acres of land to explore and camp upon in the surrounding redwood forest.

10 miles east are Montgomery Woods redwood preserve with GIANT trees, and a little farther, perhaps a mile is the famous Orr Hot Springs Resort. If you drive a half hour west from my land you will be in the coastal Mendocino village.

We are marijuana friendly!!

Cosmos site 5 was very secluded, just a couple fellow Hip Campers at the other sites on the way down. We arrived when it was dark and Cosmo was helpful in providing a property map as well as showing us where to go and making sure we had what we needed to stay warm. The site was easy to get in and out of in a stock Toyota 4Runner, but definitely not Prius friendly. Thanks for a great camping trip, Cosmo!

This site is truly a gem, one of the best camping experiences of my lifetime! The seclusion of campsite #5 and the beauty of the property was so exceptional that we didn't leave the property our whole stay. I would recommend this site to anyone who like off road camping! Cosmo is a great host with a warm and welcoming personality and he's done really neat things with the place. I will definitely stay there again and share with my friends!

Had a great time at Cosmo's Camp, site 5! Our site was one of the few needing 4*4 or AWD to access. Camp sites are pretty spaced out and we really felt like we were all to ourselves. Brought our 1 year old weimaraner who enjoyed being leash free. We brought our Taxa Cricket (super small rv/pop-up) and it fit just fine. We did need to unhitch and manually turn it around so we could drive it back out of the site (but that was on us and our choice for bringing it/site never said small RV compatible). Despite that, the host offered numerous other spots that were not a dedicated camping site to accomodate our towable if we didn't think site 5 would work. Took one day to enjoy a small hike towards the coast. Grateful for Hipcamp and all the hosts operating during Covid with numerous regional, State, and Federal options closed.

If you're looking for a secluded getaway where you can unplug and unwind, this is it. Cosmo was great; called us on the way up to make sure we were on our way with a 4wd vehicle (this particular site will need 4/AWD or all-weather tires to descend and climb the hills to get there!) and to let us know to stop at the main house when we arrived. He greeted us and hopped on his dirt bike to show us down to campsite #5. Campsite #5 is quite a distance to the bath house, so if that's essential for you, keep that in mind - there is a simple latrine (not covered) up the hill from the campsite so that you have some privacy if you elect to use it. Property is amazing, quirky, private. Had a great time and would for sure come back again! Also, if you happen to have cash on you, definitely grab a few cans of Cosmo's Tuna before making your way down to the site! Totally worth it!

We had an awesome stay at Campsite #5 which is one of the sites you need 4WD. Cosmo greeted us and led us down the trail to show us exactly where to go and we got to meet his cat Daniel who was very friendly. Our site was private and spaced out away from the other sites. This was the perfect place to disconnect and would definitely come back!

I really enjoyed my 2 nights in March 2021 at Cosmo's #5. It was incredibly peaceful and quiet. I couldn't hear any road noise at all. There's a farm down the road (about 1.5mi away) where there was very faint chainsaw noise sometimes. Otherwise, utter silence. Magnificent.

The site is good, slightly bumpy ground for the tent. Sites are very spread out - you might not even hear someone if they yelled as loud as possible. No one else was there when I was there, anyway. There are various abandoned cars, boats, motorcycles sprinkled around (not in view of the campsite though).

There are MILES of trails (narrow fire roads / 4-wheel ATV passable), great for hiking or hard core mountain biking. I took a 5-mile loop that was magical. Open fields, dense redwood forest, mixed forest, etc.

When I arrived, Cosmo greeted me with a free can of tuna he caught himself. He was super friendly and struck the perfect balance of helpful + respectful of my desire for quiet. Then I never saw him again.

Some of the signs can be confusing, but getting lost on a hike (with GPS) is actually pretty fun.

Driving in from the south, you pass a white fence on left, then (all on the left): 26000, 26061, and 26081. Cosmo is precisely at the 20.00 mile marker (within a few feet). So getting there is super easy. GPS worked fine.
