Slug Acres is a tiny campground I'm in the process of creating overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Its a piece of Heaven where the Navarro River meets the Ocean and only minutes away from the Navarro River Redwoods State park. Banana Slugs love to live under the canopy of Redwood trees and other Majestic Pines and are often found on my property, hence the name of your future camping destination. At night you will enjoy sleeping by the sound of the waves from the Pacific that carry up thru a gully from small stream that flows on the perimeter of my place. In the distance you will hear the faint soothing sound of the Fog Horn to the entrance of the Albion River harbor.
Leave everything at home and relax in a 10 x 10 canvas tent with queen size bed and warm flannel sheets. Plenty of headroom for the 6 foot 6 inch person in your life. A propane heater keeps the inside toasty and cozy while the sounds of ocean waves carry up thru the gulch. There is also a 10 x 10 platform looking out to the Ocean with 2 camp chairs provided for sipping wine/beer at dusk. The camp kitchen and outhouse is shared with one other campsite. This site is reserved for only 2 people and 1 parking space.
There are many wonderful things to say about the property and my personal favorite is that it's usually insect free. It's pretty rare to experience a nasty mosquito. Even better there are no wild animals that will eat your food at night, aside from the occasional chipmunk. Wild turkeys, deer and woodpeckers often wander aimlessly around the grounds, all harmless and entertaining, especially the babies.
The Navarro River State Beach is just 1.3 miles from my property. You can walk there but Highway 1 can be a little busy especially on the weekends. So I suggest driving to the entrance and parking there. The Navarro Redwood park is just a bit farther and where George Lucas filmed the scene in Star Wars in the Ewok village. There are so many other state parks and cities too explore nearby. The Elk store is about 4 miles away for your basic needs or a delicious sandwich.
Many times I will be onsite for your stay to make sure your stay is a pleasant one. I'm an eccentric character that wears my hats. In particular after years working in Emergency room medicine I transitioned into becoming an international boat captain and as a side project create large concrete sculptures. I've lived along the Mendocino coast for 14 years and happy to share all the secret exploring sites along the coast. However, once settled in I will probably find my way of the outskirts of Slug Acres to let you feel like you have your very own campground. By renting my space you will be supporting a Dream. One of creating an off grid paradise that will better the experience of future campers... Hope to see your Tent pitched on my property soon..

Kyle was an informative and gracious host, and he was very responsive to questions and requests. The spot is beautiful and does really have an ocean view (as long as it is not foggy). He definitely seems to be a dog lover and was tolerant of our big puppy who is still learning how not to jump. He was also gracious in tolerating a big, hard to clean mess that our toddler made.
Gorgeous views and wonderful glamping tent!! The heater was such a luxury and with no other campers that night it was a perfect private get away. The kitchen is great, bring your own silverware / plates, etc.
A few tips for campers (not meant as criticism - just to figure things out before you run into them):
- If you want a more private experience, best to rent both the glamping tent and spot #2 (ocean view platform) - they’re very close. I was lucky to have no one there and used the deck for sunset drinks.
- The glamping tent has just a couple layers of sheets, no blanket/duvet. Too cold for me to sleep without heater on. If you want to sleep with the heater on it gets very toasty (even on the lowest setting) and I had to unzip one layer of the tent to sleep comfortably and felt a little bad about wasting energy.
- Bring everything you need, the general store in Elk has pretty limited hours (but is great when open!!)
I would 100% stay again, what a magical spot!!!

The canvas-sided tent was well worth it, considering we were camping in the rain. Even though the main heater for the tent went out, Kyle brought down another even larger one that made it through the night and kept us very warm. The grounds were tidy and Kyle was very gracious.
Loved it! Such a unique, peaceful spot. Kyle was really welcoming and the tent was really comfortable. Definitely would recommend!
Such an awesome experience. The tent was warm, inviting, and comfortable. The kitchen area was very workable, and we were able to prepare everything we'd hoped. Kyle's hospitality and recommendations were top notch. We'll be back!
It was relaxing staying at this beautiful campsite. Kyle provided everything you needed to make food, keep cozy and safe. The queen size bed in our canvas tent was comfortable. It was perfect for our projector at night. The propane heater is a must! I’m glad I brought an extra blanket though I’d bring extra pillows for next time. My friend and I loved the string lights that lit up the place. It was very cute. We were near lots of parks, beaches and trails. We saw the most beautiful sunset at Navarro beach. Highly recommend venturing Mendocino. There were two other campers who were so friendly. We spent time around their campfire! Our site had a propane pit with two little chair stumps. Very personal. There was an empty platform that my friend and I would sit on and admire everything around us.

Amazing view, amazing accommodations!!
Lovely campsite! Incredible view with the sound of the ocean. The little touches Kyle has done to the property really make this place feel special down the sweet little paths built between campsites and the solar fairy lights. We loved the little gas fire ring (much easier to light, clean up, and kept us toasty!).
The platform to view the ocean was perfect for relaxing after a long day. The outhouse was nice and clean and the kitchen was simple but had the essentials. We will be staying again!
Amazing view and hospitality! Tent is cozy and communal kitchen is well lit and accessible. Loved the mini fire pit too
