Description

Ancient trees surround each site in the Holcomb Valley Campground—just north of Big Bear Lake—giving this pastoral area an air of solemnity and seclusion. Named for a grizzly hunter-cum-gold prospector in 1862, this idyllic location is busting at the seams with archeological treasures and artifacts from years past, so packing in/packing out is essential. Be sure to bring more than enough water for everyone (the nearest refill is a few miles away).

Attendant are super nice. We stayed a couple nights, and loved it. Pit toilets weren't bad. If you can do without the fire rings and the pits, there is plenty of free NF camping in the area.
