A Cozy, Private Country Estate in N. Monterey County on the world-renowned Central Coast of California, within the quiet, peaceful, small town of Aromas. We offer a private Boutique Old-Time Camping Experience, where you are camping out on the land, but with Fresh Clean Well Water, Fun Amenities, Toilets, Sink, and a Hot Water Shower. Firewood and Charcoal are included with each campsite. Our 4 spacious sites are set up for 1-4 people, but can accommodate up to 6. In addition to relaxing around your own private campfire, we have many fun activities for you to enjoy when you aren’t out visiting the local tourist attractions. You can Hike and Explore the 20 acres of oak tree forest, Swim in a large in-ground Swimming Pool, view a 45 ft. Waterfall with Koi Pond; and you can pet and feed Horses, gather eggs from Chickens, and visit with other Ranch Animals during your stay here. There is also an amazing view of the Pajaro valley and stunning sunsets, too. :) Convenient to the 1 and 101 Freeways and local activities, shopping, and tourist attractions: Carmel by the Sea, Fisherman’s Wharf, Cannery Row, Monterey Aquarium, Santa Cruz, Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk are all ~30 mins away, ~20 mins to Salinas, Watsonville, Elkhorn Slough, Moss Landing, Gilroy Outlets, Gilroy Gardens, many Wineries, public parks and beaches. Easy, private, and paved asphalt driveway on the property, gently sloped up from the entrance at the road to the campsite area and beyond. Beautiful and Majestic Oak Tree forest and giant eucalyptus trees - provides cover and shade, and energy healing properties. Plenty of open areas for basking in the warmth of the sun or star gazing at night. Large private campsites with wide spacing in between, including parking. Wood campfires are allowed. Firewood is included in the booking rate and is delivered to your campsite’s wood rack before check-in. Refills are automatically delivered daily between noon and 2pm.. Fire starter packets and Fire Color changer packet included. - Do not cook, pop popcorn, or roast marshmallows over the fire with the fire color changer. Cook before using, please. Both Packet types are to be used whole and intact, put directly in the fire - do not open. Thank you! Private custom fire-pit with cooking grill at each campsite. Popcorn packet and use of fun old-time popcorn popper included. Free Farm Fresh Eggs from our lovely hens. We also include for your use during your stay at each campsite: a Cast iron skillet, old-time popcorn popper, old-time water heating pitcher, extending s’mores skewers, salt, pepper, cooking oil, plates, bowls, drinking mugs, eating utensils, cutting board, trivets, cooking spoon and spatula, 42 qt. ice chest, and storage box. Make Cowboy Coffee with no mess for the coffee pot with the delicious coffee in a tea bag packets (plus non-dairy creamer, sugar, stevia, and assorted tea flavors) that we include in the “magic” storage box for your enjoyment. Please bring your own ice, though, if needed for the ice chest - you can buy ice (around the hill, about 2-3 minutes away from our property) at the Old Firehouse Market or Marshall’s Market here in Aromas for around $5-$6 a bag. Each campsite has a Traditional 6 ft. Wooden Picnic Table and some fun and sturdy eucalyptus-logs seating by the campfire pits. You can use the Adirondack chairs that we also provide for seating at each campsite, or bring your own comfy camping chairs to make the campsite feel even more like your own personal space. Cute and Friendly Ranch/Farm animals to interact with, with no farm smell or flies at campsites from them. You can visit our nice horses, and our hens who make all the eggs! We have a really awesome “heavy metal” rooster, too! **While we are animal lovers, Grey Oaks (for multiple very good reasons) does not allow any guest pets, emotional support, or service animals of any kind on the property. Thank you for your understanding.** Private Hiking trails (with a 2 mile loop) and lots of tree cover and open areas throughout the property. 12 ft deep Swimming Pool on site - Open for use in late Spring through mid Fall. It’s still kind of cold here for swimming up through the June gloom, but there are random days that are hot. Check your weather app to see if it will be good weather for swimming during your stay, and bring your swimsuit and favorite towel. :) It hasn’t been remodeled, yet, so it’s still old, but is perfectly functional! 2 Custom-designed Outhouses - eco friendly 100% biodegradable with toiletries and service provided, but you can also service them, if needed, between times because all the supplies are right there in the storage bin and it is very easy to do. Hot Water enclosed Outdoor Shower with dressing area and parking - located just up the driveway closer to the house by our well - which is also near our farm animals, so you can visit them too while up here, but it’s not too close right next to them. Please bring biodegradable camping shampoo and soap for your use. (We will be adding a 2nd shower and dressing room once we see how much demand there is for the first one). Recycle and Trash Bins conveniently located on site for you to use. Touchless Hand Sanitizer Dispensers Custom Sink/Washing Station (with energy and water-saving design) Fresh, clean, and pure private well water Free Fancy bottled water for drinking Full-Size Bbq/hotplate/smoker (at site 1) with propane supplied. Standard Bbq - Charcoal included - (at sites 2 and 3) - super convenient because you don’t need to buy/store/waste a whole bag if you’re only using it once or twice while here. Sorry, but for extra precautions regarding fire safety I do not have the separate charcoal bbq grill at Site 4. There is a grill over the fire pit for cooking, though. Fire extinguishers on site for emergency use. Friendly Meet and Greet check-in process, with easily accessible hosts just a text or phone call away throughout your stay… More Campsite Details: Grey Oaks is a single-residential private estate, private social club, and animal sanctuary. We have 4 campsites available - (Grey Oaks house is on the property 1/4 mile from the campsites - and no large events such as weddings or businesses are held here). Sites 1 and 2 can accommodate an RV up to 24 ft - including any vehicle pulling the RV. You can bring your tent or sleep in your vehicle at these sites, too. These campsites are the ones closest to the Outhouses and Water Station. Although all sites have always been level or mostly level, we have decided that Site 3 is to be a tent-only site now, and it can still be parked at with a car, truck or van, but - no sleeping in your vehicle at this site - unless you have leveling capabilities on that vehicle. It’s very dark once the sun goes down, so if you arrive after dark, you might not be able to see the best place to position your vehicle. It is one of our largest and best sites, and has a huge level area for your tent under the oak trees, and a second, level, designated tent area (that is raked and leveled between guests with more dirt added if needed) and plenty of room for parking. Site 4 is our most private campsite, and most secluded, but it is a park and hike, tent-only campsite. We can help you bring your gear up there with our Ranch Stallion if you need help. It has 2 large and level designated tent areas that are raked between guests and dirt added if needed. Please check your booking statement carefully to make sure the campsite you selected is correct as we have had a couple guests accidentally book site 4 with an RV or planning to sleep in their vehicle - which would have been a real problem if all the other sites had been booked those nights - but thankfully it all worked out! :) The app is somewhat confusing to use at first, so it is an easy mistake to make. We have two really nice Outhouses (The first one is 3 inches bigger than a standard port-a-potty and the new 2nd one is even bigger - by 1 ft!). These are great, btw: Very eco-friendly, water saving, 100% biodegradable, clean, comfortable (for most!) and with no odor (so far!). A large hand/dishwashing station with a custom built sink with fresh clean well water for drinking and washing, and a bottle of Crystal Fresh water (delivered by Alhambra) for drinking is conveniently located to all the campsites (a short 2 min. walk from site 4). So, while we have only been allowing camping here for a little over 3 months now, we have consistently been (and will continue) adding features and making improvements. Things may not have been perfect at first, and maybe there was the perception of a leveling issue previously at one of the sites; but anything that is brought to our attention is dealt with in a timely manner. Thank you so much to all who have believed in us and supported us from the beginning! ❤️ We especially like it when you tell us in a message privately while you are here if you are having any issues with your campsite so we can help, because (1) we care about you and want you to have a wonderful time staying at our campsites and (2) it feels like a public shaming if you save up your concerns to post in a public review about it after you check out, when it could have been quickly and easily fixed while you were here. We care very much about your experience here and don’t deliberately leave our campsites in a way that we think could possibly be uncomfortable for anyone. We are always on site and available. So please tell us while you are here if you are having any problems so we can help. Does this make sense? I hope it does. :) In conclusion, I would like to say that our Rustic Campsites are very spacious, private, secluded and peaceful; and we have received so many compliments and much excitement about them. So, if you’re in the area or passing through and need a place to camp for a night or few, give us try. From what I can see on the map, we even have the best price and value in the area, too! :) ***$10 off per night, weeknights for 1 or 2 people only : Discount CODE: 3FNCUDAN *** Children are people, too! Please don’t forget to include them in your guest count. Thank you! https://GreyOaks.org. We had a great camping trip thanks to Zak, Wendy and Liam! The site #3 was perfect size for our family of 5 as well as space for parking our SUV . We really loved the added touch of free firewood delivered daily and the other amenities this campground offers.

We hope to return again soon!

Great experience. Very friendly hosts who left us feeling welcomed and taken care of even though we had complete privacy and the site to ourselves being weekday.

Rustic Campsites at Zak and Wendy's place was the coolest and nicest HipCamp I've stayed in! They were so kind and welcoming, and made us feel at home. I loved what they've done with the campsites--they provide fun and thoughtful amenities. I don't want to spoil too much, so you'll have to just book a campsite and go see for yourself.

We stayed in site #4 which is tent only because you can't drive up there. It's the most secluded spot: about a two minute walk to the shared sink/bathroom area. Site #4 has two spots to pitch tents and there are also wonderful sunset views through the oak trees from up there!

11/10 would recommend this HipCamp.

The camping area was very nice with tiki torches, outhouses, picnic table and more. Zak met us and provided a quick orientation The area is very quiet and peaceful. Definitely a great place for camping near Santa Cruz.

Functional spot w nice host and good infrastructure and good location to things in the area like Elkhorn slough or ft ord. Sites are not very level and good amount of poison oak nearby. Wooded setting that is fine for a place to sleep but probably not hang out. Would stay again.

We took our Girl Scout troop whale watching out of Moss Landing, and campsites were nearly impossible to find. When we saw the opportunity to stay at these Rustic Campsites we were so excited. We rented 2 sites and more than enough room for a huge 16 person tent and two 4-person tents. The girls loved all the special surprises, like campfire popcorn and magic color-changing powder for the fire. One of the 13 year olds said she would "rather come back here than go to Disneyland!" The hosts were so kind and helpful, made sure we knew where to find everything, replenished the (nicely dried) firewood, and did everything possible to assure a comfortable stay. The only caution I would share is for anyone who might be very sensitive to poison oak- there is a lot on the property. Obviously the owners have worked hard to keep it in check, and none of us got any poison oak itches. We would highly recommend staying here!

We lucked out grabbing this campsite at the last minute. Zak & Wendy were the most wonderful hosts! Everything was just as it was described in the listing. My nephew especially enjoyed feeding the fish, meeting the horses, and visiting the chickens!
