Amazing star gazing property completely off grid.

4 camping sites available. The property is 112 acres. Located only 1 hour from downtown San Diego and 1 hour from small town of Julian Ca. It offers great hiking and seasonal streams. Perfect wilderness for star gazing and wildlife watching. Large trees for shade. Campers can camp anywhere on the property, the best views are from the highest most western part that will need to be hiked to. The terrain varies from soft sand, soft dirt, clay to hard rock. The trails terrain differs from the flat, to hills, to boulders and to a mountain. The view from the top of the mountain is amazing.

It’s only a few miles from Golden Acorn Casino for dinner and to town. A couple minutes from the famous Wisteria Candy Cottage. A must stop for amazing hand made chocolate candy and they have sugar free candy too.

It feels like you are in the middle of no where but a quick 3 min drive and you’ll be in town. It’s also a couple miles away from McCain’s Valley off road recreational park and look out point. McCain’s offers motorcycle riding and off-road truck trails. Nearest fishing spot is Lake Morena, 2550 Lake Morena Dr Campo, CA 91906.

I love staying out here in a tent under the stars with no city lights. It really is a great place to just get away and relax. There’s plenty of rabbits and deer tracks on the property. There’s always new trails being created on a monthly basis. There’s an old man made rock damn and old buried wagon on property as well. My favorite features of the property is the hiking at different elevations, the running streams, unique rock formations and the view from the top of the Mountain. It’s completely private 112 acres all to yourself.

Pack it in, pack it out !! South part of property overlooks highway 8. Please Do not wander off the property past fence lines onto other people's property. Comply with all CA laws. No illegal activities. Rocky Knoll Rd, Boulevard, CA 91905 right off the freeway in McCain’s valley road.

Beautiful place to catch a sunrise or set. Stars galore. Nice and dark. Coyotes howled all around me after sunset and throughout the night. Rocky Knoll Ranch is beautiful and offers great hiking. There are trails woven throughout the property. Make sure go to the top of the ridge for 360 degree views.

The road is a little rough getting in, but my 2WD F-150 easily made it in. I also own a smaller 2WD Nissan Frontier, and it easily would have made it in.

The property is close to I-8, so you do hear a fair a mount of vehicles in the distance. The Boarder Patrol has a station near the property and they are active in the area.

Giuseppe is professional, accommodating and helpful He replied to my questions within minutes and is an all around great host.

I’m glad I stayed here. If you live in San Diego and want to get away from the city for a night or two, come give Rocky Knoll Ranch a try.

North Facing View of Old Rocky Knoll Ranch from top of the ridge. Based on my interpretation of Giuseppe's description, his property ends at the road, which is right below the two hills. Facing west...Jacumba MountainsView from top of the ridgeWrinkled Pad (I think) cacti. Watch the ground for all the beautiful vegetation and for rattle snakes. I didn't see any.

Site was great, very private and felt safe with a locked gate at the entrance. We didn’t wander very far in but there was a perfect site for tent camping. Soft sand and a pretty big clearing. The view was awesome. Coyotes came out and checked out our camp at night which was a cool experience!

Such an amazing spot! Unfortunately we got here late at night, which I would not recommend. It’s very dark here at night, which is PHENOMENAL for stargazing, but not for finding/setting up camp. I would advise you have an AWD as the trail can be pretty treacherous. My husband and I both have our jeeps and even felt a little uneasy farther up the trail. There is a pretty big campsite on the left side of the trail after you pass some small wooden structures on the right side. It is near the freeway but is not disturbing in the slightest. The stargazing here is probably some of the best I’ve ever seen in Southern California. We also had our dogs off leash in this area. Plenty of space for them to roam, but just be cautious as there’s lots of cactuses on the outskirts of camp. I’d recommend getting some boots for the pups! Definitely would recommend and would love to come back to this amazing spot!!!!

Excellent host and site. Easy to follow directions, and tons of options for where to camp. If you're going far into the acreage, you will definitely want a big 4WD truck (can access some spots without one). Very much remote and off the grid, what more can you ask than having the entire land to yourself! Will definitely repeat.

Total gem. We camped here with a few families and it was so fun. We have a 40’ RV and everything else was either a AWD or a truck. Everyone but the RV made it up the “ravine”. I recommend driving up that road, there is a way better campsite there.

There was some glass scattered about where it looked like people did some shooting practice. There are also tons and tons of cactus’, so beware. We had kids that did ok, and our dogs had a blast but they got tons of stickers stuck in their feet (we had to put them out periodically throughout the day). We wish we would have brought some booties for them.

We love off-grid camping, and this place was great because there was so much property to explore. It felt like a real adventure because you had to make your own path.

Lots of GREAT spots if you have a small two-person tent.

Also, they have two bee hives on the road so be careful.

We hiked up here and you could see where we pitched camp. Also, this rock looks like a turtle. One of our small dogs to give reference Old Rocky Knoll Ranch 100+ AcresThe “ravine”

This property was wonderful! It was super convenient to find, with great views and beautiful terrain. Beware of rattle snakes and keep your dogs on a leash. We saw 2 while hiking. Be prepared for wind, so bring steaks for your tents and shade structures. All the information was provided ahead of time and Giuseppe was responsive to any questions we had.

Beautiful land to hike and drive with an off roading vehicle!

The only issue we had was that to get to the cool camping spots, you either had to hike or drive in with a vehicle with clearance and AWD. The lower spot for RVs/vans or car camping wasn't very big and you could see Hwy 8. If you follow the rough road up just a bit with a vehicle that can handle it, there are great spots near the boulders and a wide open area that we had a dance party at! You can still see the highway, but much less so.

The host was responsive and thorough.
