Established 1978 Learn more about this land: Amazing star gazing property completely off grid. 4 camping sites available. The property is 112 acres. Located only 1 hour from downtown San Diego and 1 hour from small town of Julian Ca. It offers great hiking and seasonal streams. Perfect wilderness for star gazing and wildlife watching. Large trees for shade. Campers can camp anywhere on the property, the best views are from the highest most western part that will need to be hiked to. The terrain varies from soft sand, soft dirt, clay to hard rock. The trails terrain differs from the flat, to hills, to boulders and to a mountain. The view from the top of the mountain is amazing. It’s only a few miles from Golden Acorn Casino for dinner and to town. A couple minutes from the famous Wisteria Candy Cottage. A must stop for amazing hand made chocolate candy and they have sugar free candy too. It feels like you are in the middle of no where but a quick 3 min drive and you’ll be in town. It’s also a couple miles away from McCain’s Valley off road recreational park and look out point. McCain’s offers motorcycle riding and off-road truck trails. Nearest fishing spot is Lake Morena, 2550 Lake Morena Dr Campo, CA 91906. I love staying out here in a tent under the stars with no city lights. It really is a great place to just get away and relax. There’s plenty of rabbits and deer tracks on the property. There’s always new trails being created on a monthly basis. There’s an old man made rock damn and old buried wagon on property as well. My favorite features of the property is the hiking at different elevations, the running streams, unique rock formations and the view from the top of the Mountain. It’s completely private 112 acres all to yourself.  Pack it in, pack it out !! South part of property overlooks highway 8. Please Do not wander off the property past fence lines onto other people's property. Comply with all CA laws. No illegal activities. Rocky Knoll Rd, Boulevard, CA 91905 right off the freeway in McCain’s valley road.  GPS directions will take you to property. By searching Rocky Knoll Road, Boulevard , CA 91905 Discounts available for booking multiple sites. Message for discount. Property starts at water tower and ends at top of mountain at fence. Do not make a right at end of groomed flat access road. Stay south or left of access road all the way to fence. Those are the property boundaries. Have a great camping trip !

Old Rocky Knoll Ranch 100+ Acres
Simple, basic and beautiful. There’s land and then a fire pit circle, that’s it. The freeway is close by but not noisy enough to hear it from camp. One major rut in the road to get to camp site. We did hear the coyotes in the distance at night.

Great getaway
The is was my 2nd time staying out here, it was great! Nice and secluded but close enough to run to town to grab some extra supplies. The host was great and quickly answered my questions. It was just my and I exploring around and enjoying ourselves. Stargazing was amazing as well as the sunsets we will be back.

Scenic Desert Camping
Beautiful place to catch a sunrise or set. Stars galore. Nice and dark. Coyotes howled all around me after sunset and throughout the night. Rocky Knoll Ranch is beautiful and offers great hiking. There are trails woven throughout the property. Make sure go to the top of the ridge for 360 degree views. The road is a little rough getting in, but my 2WD F-150 easily made it in. I also own a smaller 2WD Nissan Frontier, and it easily would have made it in. The property is close to I-8, so you do hear a fair a mount of vehicles in the distance. The Boarder Patrol has a station near the property and they are active in the area. Giuseppe is professional, accommodating and helpful He replied to my questions within minutes and is an all around great host. I’m glad I stayed here. If you live in San Diego and want to get away from the city for a night or two, come give Rocky Knoll Ranch a try.

Site was great, very private and felt safe with a locked gate at the entrance. We didn’t wander very far in but there was a perfect site for tent camping. Soft sand and a pretty big clearing. The view was awesome. Coyotes came out and checked out our camp at night which was a cool experience!

10/10 do not want to miss!
Such an amazing spot! Unfortunately we got here late at night, which I would not recommend. It’s very dark here at night, which is PHENOMENAL for stargazing, but not for finding/setting up camp. I would advise you have an AWD as the trail can be pretty treacherous. My husband and I both have our jeeps and even felt a little uneasy farther up the trail. There is a pretty big campsite on the left side of the trail after you pass some small wooden structures on the right side. It is near the freeway but is not disturbing in the slightest. The stargazing here is probably some of the best I’ve ever seen in Southern California. We also had our dogs off leash in this area. Plenty of space for them to roam, but just be cautious as there’s lots of cactuses on the outskirts of camp. I’d recommend getting some boots for the pups! Definitely would recommend and would love to come back to this amazing spot!!!!
