This is one of the hardest roads my SUV (FWD with all terrain tires) has ever gone up. In fact, I likely would have turned back if it were not for Lee’s help! Our AWD SUV had no problems at all. So heed that warning if you’re not prepared. But also know you’ve got a kind Host on the property! Pay careful attention to Lee’s instructions for finding the property.

I’m very glad we persisted because, at the top of the mountain, Lee unveiled the grand view. Lucky us, we arrived during sunset so we had a clear and pretty view of the lakes, as well as the property and campsite in the valley below.

The campsite sits at an entrance to Glen Eden Trailhead. There are picnic tables and a water trough on the trail, with a pool and outhouse up the hill — only a minute or so walk where you’ll pass by show rabbits, rocking out to country radio during the middle of the night. The rooster did wake us up well before sunrise, unfortunately, and the pen is close to the campsite. I expect this on a farm, though. What I didn’t expect is the outhouse stocking baby wipes, which is a small luxury that I really appreciated!

This is a working farm, and like most farms, not every corner is neat, tidy, and Instagrammable. But the campsite is clear, flat ground and that’s what matters most! We strung string lights from the nearby trees and watched the bats wiz by, eating what bugs were drawn to the light. Best of all, the campsite is far away from the host’s home, so there’s plenty of privacy.

The drive back to the main road is considerably easier than the drive in. Enjoy those views while you can!

    Beautiful but strange experience

The land was beautiful. The guys onsite who helped us get settled were pleasant. But this was neither hip, nor was it camping. The site is advertised as “a safe place to park” and there‘sa cute old school van in the photo. What the photo doesn’t show is the random lumber piled next to a giant trailer fill with trash just on the other side of that van. The space, the people living there, and the buildings (trailers) were unkempt, yet there were very few crops. It was billed as a working ranch, but it was confusing as to what type of work was happening. We stayed the whole weekend because it was July 4th and we needed somewhere to escape the noise of fireworks, but the other folks who rented a site next to us - the pretty one overlooking the lake - bounced after one night. That was after the guys drove their super low-to-the-ground 2WD Jetta over some of the roughest mountain roads I’ve seen. DO NOT BOOK unless you have 4WD - that wasn’t mentioned anywhere in the listing. Not the experience I would have wanted for $150. Did not feel like we were on vacation.

The only thing I would caution is the road. Front wheel with all terrain tires minimum but I would recommend all wheel or 4 wheel. Very peaceful. Great swing with gorgeous views. Great access to hiking trail.
