Welcome to Poppy Pines! Your hosts purchased this property in March 2021, seeking adventure. Our plan is to slowly add more native, drought tolerant, and edible plants to the property. We want campers to be inspired and rejuvenated, after visiting.
The campsite sits atop 40 acres, overlooking beautiful Shasta County. There is a wooden shed on the graded, level hilltop, and your group can feel free to park anywhere that's comfortable! You're welcome to use the shed's patio, for reading a book, having coffee, or simply sitting and taking in the views.
Next to the shed is an outdoor shower, created with rocks from the property. If you have a solar shower, lay it on the rocks, during the day, and hang it up in the evening for a hot, refreshing, evening sunset shower. Caution: Rocks get HOT, shower sandals are recommended.
We have a macramé swing that hangs from a large Gray Pine at the campsite. A great shady spot for some quiet time, and hanging over the hill is quite fun! Rocks getting down are a little loose, use at your own risk.
With spotty cell service the possibilities to find rest and relaxation are endless. A few of our favorite activities while camping at Poppy Pines are yoga, rock painting and animal watching. Bring some art supplies and pick a rock to add your own personal decoration to Poppy Pines. Hiking (also good mountain biking) Yolla Bolly Road is a great way to see the diverse animals and plants in the area.

*Hiking Disclaimer* within Poppy Pines hiking is currently limited by the rugged terrain. There are some wide open minimal incline areas to hike near the hilltop campsite. Guests can hike anywhere within the property line currently marked by blue/white tape hanging in trees. Forewarning, while allowed, attempting to traverse the ravine/canyon to reach the back of the property consists of very steep, rocky and maybe a bit dangerous terrain for inexperienced trekkers. The trailhead on the property goes on to the neighboring lot and we ask guests to please respect the property line (marked by a mini rock wall) by limiting their hiking to Yolla Bolly Road or within Poppy Pines.
Cottonwood Creek - Picnic/Swim/Fish - When coming down Yolla Bolly Road you will pass Cottonwood Creek Rd on the right. You can access Cottonwood Creek by driving down this road, the turn is a little over a mile from the Poppy Pines campsite. This is section of creek set aside by the Trinity Alps Preserve for local residents and their guests to access the creek coursing through the area, since as you can see from the campsite it is a long way down without a road. A short drive or fun bike ride, this is a great spot to cool down on hot days. If engaging in fishing please look up all local regulations/season and have proper state license. Golden trout are supposed to be in this area.

Poppy Pines is a quiet sanctuary on top of the world! The 15 minute drive off the main road left me gripping in anticipation. And the views did not disappoint. Magical sunset and I Slept solid under a moonlit sky. Great way to decompress and steer myself away from the internet for a few days. I even made a few paintings while I was there. And thank you for the bottle of stellar wine!!

The hosts where lovely. But we did not stay as it was not and should not have been accepted for us to stay. We where in a 19ft trailer pulled by a suv. WAS NOT SUITABLE. very steep and scary driving with no turnarounds. On saying that in the right vehicle it could have been amazing. After a hard drive. The driveway was impassable for us. The host help us find alternative stay.
Such a beautiful and peaceful location up high on a hill. With the hammock, the picnic bench and the rope chair suspended from the lovely tree, it was a 5-star stay in nature.
Super nice spot. BEAUTIFUL views. We watched the turkey vultures soaring all day and the rain coming down on higher mountains. We didn’t use the shower spot but it looked really nice. Very peaceful and secluded But also visible from the road, which only one person came down the whole weekend. If you’re in a lowered vehicle it can be tricky to get over down the road, over the little drainage ditch and back up the steep driveway approach at the gate. We had pieces of wood and our leveling blocks to give us more clearance and exited pointed downhill when we left. There are spots not to far that you can turn back around and head towards platina. It was SUPER windy when we were there. We still enjoyed our time inside our rig, but we didn’t get to enjoy the outdoors as much. There was a hammock up which we did enjoy for afternoon naps but the wind was too much at night to sleep outside, given a choice. There is also a little cactus garden on the hill which we enjoyed and used little bits of left over water to help the artichokes. Would absolutely stay again.

This area is so serene & out in the middle of nowhere, which was exactly what we were looking for . So much peace, quiet, & open space. Our dogs were able to safely roam without supervision in this breathtaking space. Word of caution (as the hosts posted in their directions) , do not wander whatsoever around the area on the trails … there are no good markers between properties & back woods property owners shoot before talking.
We loved this spot & would love to visit again in the future.
If I reserved two days on someone’s recommendation. Unfortunately I was unable, in the end, to make the trip. What I CAN say is that, as a newbie to RVing, I bring more than my share of confusion and questions to any hosts table, so to speak. My interactions and communication with Stephanie were great. I will totally stop by on my way back Stephanie!
Poppy Pines was the highlight of our RV trip—360 views of the most amazing hills and mountains and it’s private and just so beautiful! What an amazing to relax, and even just driving through the area is really incredible! Hosts were amazing, super helpful and kind—highly recommended this stay!
Be prepared for a dirt road and stay clear of fiddlers road!

Way off the beaten path as another camper had said in their review. I drove out at night which was an adventure all it it’s own. Relatively easy to find, stellar views of the surrounding mountains, sunrises/sunsets. I only spent one night on my way north, it was a prefect private little stop for the night.
