If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
I stayed at the Overlandia site, which was one of my favorite camping experiences ever! (Minus the high wind that blew over and destroyed my canopy in the middle of the night. But that was my fault for not taking it down when the winds started picking up).
The grounds are stunning and pretty remote, I could have gone the entire weekend without seeing a single person, had I not walked up to the main campsite (it’s only a 5 minute walk). Quite a bit of buzzing during the day so you gotta be okay with insects, but it mellows out at night and the quiet is so serene. Not to mentions the stars! Would be a great place to catch a meteor shower.
Will definitely be back!
Great truck or tent camp spot!
Awesome tent and Truck camping at Overlandia. The weather was beautiful and the hills seem to block a lot of wind. The campground site is cozy and has a great little fire pit. Hiking nearby was also really nice. Highly recommend
Great location that was clean and well kept. It did get extremely windy at night so come prepared for that. The google maps link isn’t very accurate and the written directions could be better as we had to call for help. Bathrooms are longer than a 5 minute walk but are clean.
Seclusion in reach of amenities!
The Overlandia backcountry site was awesome. Julie & Andy made us feel super welcomed and comfortable during our stay. The plot itself is close enough to the main area of their property that you're just a short walk from amenities like shower/toilet/community kitchen/etc. But it's far enough out that you get some nice privacy and seclusion. The view of the desert hills is incredible and the night time darkness allows for great stargazing. The dirt road to get to the camp site is a bit bumpy, but I had no problem making it in my little compact car that has pretty minimal ground clearance.
Andy is such a friendly and welcoming host. He was ready to help us with anything we may have not had with us, water, fire wood, cooking utensils and community kitchen. He also offered to information about overlanding/rock-crawling/off-roading trails in the area.
Upon our arrival, we popped by his bus to pick up homemade Campandas. We toasted them over our fire, which were excellent. The campsite is situated overlooking a small valley with the opportunity to romp around. The grounds also have an outhouse overlooking said valley. I’d challenge anyone to find another outhouse with a better view than this one.
I’ll also give credit to Andy for the clear , starry sky and coyote soundscape.
The campsite is nice and secluded. It backs right up to the state park so you don't have to worry about running into anyone else. The pin located on the listing is not completely accurate so keep that in mind. Also, the trail leading down to the camp is kind of tight and some of the brush will scrape on the side of your vehicle, so if you are driving something where you are particularly worried about the paint, I would figure out another vehicle to take. Aside from getting there, I was definitely impressed with the site. There is plenty of room to go exploring on your own and the sunset is gorgeous. I would definitely consider coming back
So obsessed with this Hipcamp! The views are 🤌🏻 phenomenal, the amenities are amazing, the hosts were cosmic, and it’s just a 1.5 hr drive from San Diego. I particularly loved the view from the composting toilet. As a full time vanlifer it is pretty key to have decent service, access to a bathroom and shower and just to feel safe and at home on the road is huge and definitely felt that here. Didn’t want to leave and will definitely be back :)
Rad little campsite secluded from the rest of the property, nothing but views, sunrises, and sunsets. Perfect for some R and R or to work remotely with good cell service.
The toilet and shower are located about a 5 min walk away from the campsite; shower is awesome -open air with instant hot water and a porthole in the door to enjoy the view!
