The road was so terrible we got stuck and had to get towed out! You definitely need a truck to get through

Location was beautiful and isolated.

There were harsh winds when I went, please take note of that. Finding the location was pretty straightforward as long as you follow the written instructions. I'd strongly suggest driving a high-clearance vehicle for this trip.

This site was extremely convenient for visiting the Salton Sea. As off road enthusiast we loved this spot actually located in the OHV Rec area. Luckily our rental was a Jeep Wrangler, so we had no issues but could be a bit un-nerving getting there in something without 4WD. It was extremely peaceful, the gazebo and firepit were great. If we had know there was such a nice grill grate for the spot, I probably would have stopped to grab some meats to grill. Be sure you're there in time for the sunset. 10/10 would recommend.

This place is definitely secluded. As others have mentioned, a 4-wheel drive vehicle is highly recommended. We made it out there with a high clearance camper van but it was precarious at times and we could not drive all the way up to the gazebo which was a bummer in a camper van. The view is epic but you can get equally as spectacular vistas by camping on BLM land. I would recommend this to spot to anyone who wants the piece of mind of a secluded camp spot (without the hassle of competing for BLM spots) and has the proper vehicle for getting out there. John was also a great communicator!

Very beautiful spot, the gazebo is well built, there are a ton of interesting rocks. The directions were very accurate, including that the road gets VERY rough.

Please note that the directions given are close but not complete. It is a half mile further down the road before the turnoff. Also, the advertisement notes that trailers are welcome. Just know that it is really inadvisable to take a trailer out there. We did and we’re unable to make the turn onto the road, ended up driving a lot further to find a less than ideal place to turn around. We bent one of our stabilizer jacks. And on Mew Years there were literally thousands of people out there on quads, dirt bikes and other off road vehicles. PerhPs when it isn’t a holiday weekend it would be better. I would not recommend staying here if you are towing a trailer.
