Follow Goggle maps to the tasting room at Nelson Family Vineyards which is open from 10 am to 5 pm. They will check you in, give you a map to the camp sites, and give you the gate code. The road to the camp sites is one lane with passing turnouts but we encourage campers to wait to access the camp sites after 12 pm and and leave before 12 pm. When pulling a trailer with a hitch, vehicles need to be 4-wheel drive to access the camping sites.
We are the fourth owners of this property. The original owner, Don Juan Feliz called it the Sanel Rancho. Feliz transferred our valley to John Knight for services rendered after the Mexican American War in 1846 to regain the title to the Sanel Rancho from Congress. Leslie Crawford purchased it from Knight's wife and later purchased several homesteads. The ranch has produced hops, prunes, pears, wine grapes, sheep and cattle at different time periods. Currently we raise pears, wine grapes, strawberries and Christmas trees.

If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
Our stay at Nelson Family Vineyards was wonderful from start to finish! Greg was very responsive from the get-go and gave us a ton of relevant and helpful information. Upon getting to the vineyard, the staff were lovely, and we sat under the redwoods and enjoyed some wine at golden hour before heading up to the campsite. The campsite has incredible 360 views of the valley, and is the perfect spot for watching the sunset. Campsites are spacious and private. We would absolutely stay here again on our next trip through Mendocino wine country.
We had an amazing stay at this hipcamp. The views from our camp were spectacular. We pulled into the wine tasting room with only 30 min to spare before closing and the amazing woman in the tasting room was so kind and gave us a few tastes and helped us pick out some wine which was so generous. Her friendliness was a great start to our evening, and all in all we had a great stay.
Relaxing rv site!!
The place is beautiful and quiet. Rachel who greeted us at the tasting room was kind and very helpful. It’s great that the requests to stay for RV customers are reviewed before being approved. It keeps the guests limited to those who care about the property and enjoy their stay!! There were only a handful of RV guests, but everyone was very friendly. I initially thought there were more RV sites located on the hillside overlooking the vineyard, as shown in the site pics, but I misunderstood as I was informed that was for tents. It was hot when we visited, but we still enjoyed the stay and we will definitely submit for a request to stay in the cooler season! OOOHHH! and the cab reserve was excellent! Thank You Nelson Family Vineyards!!!
Relax in a picturesque vineyard
Our stay at the Nelson Family Vineyard was wonderful. We relaxed outside the tasting room sipping wine before we settle into our camp area which was near the vineyards. It was peaceful, picturesque and quiet.
Amazing, peaceful hilltop spot
What a beautiful spot! The Nelson Family really has an amazing location and carved out several spots for Sprinters and camping on a hill that is surrounded by vineyards and oaks. We had the place to ourselves and enjoyed walking the hill and taking in all of the different views around sunset. The spot we picked had a few oaks providing shade which was great during the afternoon and during sunrise. All the spots that we saw could work for either camping of Sprinters. Super peaceful and with amazing scenery. The host Greg did a great job of directing us and made himself available for questions.
Stayed in a shady campsite on a hill overlooking lush valleys and vineyards. Staff at the adjacent winery were incredibly friendly; its a great place to grab a wine flight! The campsite location is also conveniently situated close to the highway, making towns and other wineries minutes away. Of note, access to the campsites requires driving up a steep dirt road with some ruting, so a sturier vehicle is recommended. We towed a small teardrop trailer in a subaru and had plenty of space to maneuver through the grounds, but larger rvs or trailers should be cautious.
