Saving my solo impromptu trip

The stay was fantastic! Before I got to this site, I was on a solo trip up the coast from socal when I stopped to camp at Ponderosa Campground up on Nacimiento-fergusson road nearby. I was so unsatisfied with having to drive through Fort Hunter Liggett to get in and out of the site that for my second night, I made an impromptu reservation with Niel at Hideaway Oaks. Best decision I could've made. Camping on safe private property, no poison oak, and not having to drive through the fort were all life changers. Both hosts were so so kind the whole time. I was provided a hiking map and a picnic table in addition to the site upon arrival. Despite my short-notice appearance, I was greeted kindly and openly. There were no fires but I thrived just cooking on my stove. There are yellowjackets so be aware that while they're not really a problem, allergic individuals should be cautious. Loved all the wildlife, including but not limited to deer, owls, squirrels, birds, etc. Night sky was killer, and the property has a wonderful plateau for stargazing. The bathroom situation is way better than I was expecting as well! Would definitely stay here again if I found myself nearby. If you're here, definitely try to find the chicken farm on Nacimento Lake Rd (closer to 101) for some fresh blue eggs for breakfast while camping!

Neil & Karin were great hosts! Their campsites are nice and remote with amazing views of the stars. I look forward to staying again in the future.

The directions from the host were easy to follow and the campground was very nice. The actual area was awesome, with great stargazing opportunities. Toilet was also clean and nicely setup.

Overall, one of the best campgrounds I've stayed in recently.

Great secluded spot, easy scenic drive from 101. Nice and quiet, shade, nice table and fire pit. I met the owner Neil- he stopped by to make sure everything was good when I arrived. Will definitely make this a regular camping stop!

Very nice and secluded. We followed the directions and found it no problemo I would add that Cross rd is exactly 2.0 miles past Lockwood store. Lots of wildlife.

This was the best hip camp I’ve been to so far! The host came to say hi and make sure I found the place. There was a map of the trail on the property. The views were breathtaking. It was amazingly quiet. There was nobody camping in the south 40 sites, so I was the only one camping. Would definitely come here again!
