Mono Camp is my new favorite Hipcamp. I almost don't want to tell people about it, because I want to be able to come whenever I want without the calendar being booked up. I have absolutely nothing negative to say about it. You have your own private view of Mono Lake and the expansive vistas in all directions. There's a nice firepit with chairs and a grill rack. And it's so easy to get to — just off the main road, and minutes from the 395. From there you can go anywhere in the Eastern Sierra with ease.
If you're coming in the colder seasons, definitely would recommend snagging Juniper Camp out of the three sites, since it has this amazing little cabin. It's simple, but very thoughtfully made and has double pane windows! When it's 25F outside at night, having that to sleep in when you were expecting to tent camp feels like an incredible luxury. I didn't even need to use the wood stove. And it's the most private of the sites, I think, set back further on the property with a few trees in front. If you have a large group then one of the other ones might be better to fit more tents.
The best part of Mono Camp is how totally quiet it is. You can sit there forever in utter silence, day or night, aside from a very occasional car on the highway or visits from the beautiful, diverse birds. It may be different if your camp neighbors are louder, but I was lucky and mine were just as happy to also sit around their campfires saying nothing. Just enjoying the stars and the reflection of the moon on the lake. Oh, and there are so many stars. (Also saw Mars, Saturn, and a few meteors!)
If you're looking for somewhere to get away, this is it.

George is a friendly host, The site is perfect to listen to the silence of the desert, roast some marshmallows and gaze at the stars! highly recommended. ps: bring some toilet paper
Campsite is spacious. Area has outstanding scenic quality with views of Mono Lake and Sierras. Pinion pines provide much privacy. Very nice sitting area and fire pit in front of cabin. Came prepared to sleep in a tent with abundant places to pitch, but slept in the small cabin instead which was warm, quiet, and comfortable. Greeted by friendly dogs. Took many short walks including one to a tufa formation. Cellular service is available if you need to stay connected. No need to bring bottled water. This was my first Hipcamp experience and will definitely come back to Mono Camp
This place was exactly as depicted in the photos but the view once you're there is understated! The site is private, well kept, and cozy. George left us everything we'd need for our stay from plenty of firewood, lighter fluid, etc. Even with below 40 degree weather at night we were more than comfortable with the heat from the wood stove. Would highly recommend this site for summer or winter stays.
Amazing location and accommodations! The hosts are accessible if needed but otherwise you feel like you're on your own private paradise. Might wanna read up on learning to light oil lamps and wood stoves as those are the only light and heat sources provided. We stayed on a night when it was about 50 deg. Fahrenheit and it was really cozy without the wood stove turned on. They have a 2 burner camp stove so just bring your own fuel. There's plenty outdoor seating provided, a fire pit, and a relatively clean outdoor bathroom. The potable water is a short walk up from the cabin and it's super tasty. Overall do yourself a favor and book this listing.
The view of mono lake was an unexpected treat! The stove worked great (bring newspaper or other materials for starting the fire). Memory foam was a nice feature.
It was a perfect solitary getaway!

Very nice desert hideout that feels welcoming and appropriate aesthetically for these apocalyptic times.
Charming little cabin with serene, beautiful landscape! The first night we arrived the winds were very strong all night, but the cabin was sturdy and the wood stove kept us nice and warm. Make sure to make use of the water pump several yards in front of the house—we drove right past it the first time! Had a great adventure exploring and skiing Mammoth, would definitely return :)
The host was very warm and jovial. The site was beautiful and comfortable. Highly recommended!
