Cannonball Camp is a quiet, private campsite right on the Holland Reservoir, with easy access to trails. Enjoy the sunrise and sunset in an isolated location with some of the best stargazing on the property. There is flat ground to pitch your tent on, a picnic table to enjoy meals at, a fire pit (for use only when a fire ban is not in effect), some shade (we recommend bringing more) and gorgeous views all around. The proximity to the water is what people like the most about this site – you can step out of your tent in the morning and jump right in! This site is perfect for larger groups.
There is no car access to Cannonball Camp. To get to this site you will park your car at the parking area, and hike about a half mile (~15 minutes) using the footpath around the Reservoir. Prepare to hike camping gear up to the campsite without hand carts as there are steps and a hilly terrain to traverse. Since you will be carrying your gear to the site, we recommend that you pack lightly.
Currently reservation requests for this campsite are set for up to 5 campers. When booking the site for more than 5 guests please edit your request to reflect accurate headcount information in advance of your arrival. Additional campers are $30 per adult nightly.

We were happy to have a site right on the reservoir. There were not many people when we went, so we were able to borrow all the kayaks and paddle around until the clouds rolled in. The camping area is dusty dirt, so bring a tarp if you have one. There was a jug of water provided, which was so thoughtful. Not far to the porta pottie. We were able to transport our stuff up to the campsite and bring it back, which was really great not to carry everything in. I wish we’d come on a hotter weekend so we could actually cannonball. The dock off the campsite was nice to stand on and peek at the fish. Mackenzie and her partner were helpful and checked in to make sure we were okay. We will definitely go back.
Awesome lakeside camping
We had an awesome time camping at cannonball this past weekend. We spent the entire day in the lake floating around and jumping off the dock. At night, we just stared up at the stars for hours. I would highly recommend this place to a friend and found it to be better than described.
Our group had a great weekend hanging out right on (and in) the water at cannonball camp! Mackenzie shuttled up all our stuff for us in her truck (we got shuttled as well!), so we didn’t have to carry anything in. The camp has a picnic table and some long tables, with a 10gal water container waiting for us. Being right on the water was awesome! At first I was worried about being able to swim because it wasn’t going to be hot out, but the reservoir was a nice temperature (warmer than the air) and we spent the whole morning in the water. There are a bunch of kayaks for use as well, and there’s a nice walk around the reservoir (look out for poison oak). Only two campsites on the lake so was very quiet at night. Loved our time here!
We had a great time at Cannonball Camp even with the rain! Mackenzie’s land was gorgeous and she and her husband were incredibly helpful and accommodating. We loved being able to canoe out onto the water and walk around the property. Star gazing was amazing and we really enjoyed the group campfire at night. This place is awesome for big groups, we would definitely come again!!
Cannonball campsite was beautiful! Mackenzie was such a great host and made sure we had everything we needed. The reservoir was pristine and I am -oddly- particular about lake water. I imagine the lovely fishes (which you can see swimming by from the shore) are doing their job. The kayaks were so fun too. 1000% recommend!
Tip for dog parents: If you have dogs with sensitive paws or hip issues, you may want to bring some doggy shoes because there is a lot of rocks and foxtails at this site as well as a hill. If you have dogs that aren’t very sociable, this is a great spot with enough privacy for everyone to chill.
Great for big groups!
This. place. is. awesome. Can't recommend Mendocino Magic enough, Mackenzie and the whole crew were amazing and so accommodating. The campsites are great, especially the ones right on the water. Easy access to kayaks/canoes/fishing and the group camp fire was super fun.
