Located in Sunny Southern California, this desert escape is filled with cool pieces of history and entertainment, fun for the whole family. A 162 Acre piece of private property lays home to a private campground, welcoming campers looking to drop off the grid, camp, hike and even take a dip in some watering holes. As a true oasis we have 2 swimming holes nestled into a beautiful valley filled with hiking, plenty of shade and a great view waiting at the top of any ridge. A relaxed atmosphere around this RURAL campground, a building sense of community throughout the campground, regularly held pot lucks and group campfires sharing in the beauty of the Southern California Desert.
We have two bathrooms, and two communal areas (fire pits, sinks, bbqs) that are shared by all of our guests. We are currently only opening half of our sties to keep the number of people in these communal areas lower. Our bathrooms will be cleaned at least twice a day but we encourage any of our potential guests to be safe and respect fellow campers while visiting!

Wow!! This site is the ultimate desert oasis. Sam and Dave greeted us right when we arrived and gave us an extensive tour of their amazing property. They explained all the work they had already put into the land to make it what it was and all the work they still intended to do to make this place the ultimate must stay campground. The pair could not have been friendlier or more welcoming and they bent over backwards to make sure that we were comfortable and had absolutely everything we might need. Beyond the hospitality from our hosts, the site itself was absolutely out of this world. With two ponds and natural underground springs, this place was crawling with life unseen most anywhere else in the area. From the wonderful trees that provided ample shade at every campsite on the property, to the croaking frogs in the pond, it was hard to believe this place was in the middle of a desert. The campsites were big enough for large group camps, but each individual tent nook still felt private and shady. The sites each had a communal fire ring, which was nice when the sun crawled below the horizon, as well as a spigot and hose to put out the fires when finished. The bathroom on site was lovely, with a hot water shower and flushing toilet it felt luxury as far as camping is concerned. The garden was just starting to fruit and I'm sure there will be lots of delicious fresh produce down the road. As if the day time views weren't enough, the stars were also out of this world! With a 20 minute drive to Joshua Tree National Park down the road, and lots of hiking and exploring on the property itself this place is a no brainer if you are ever staying anywhere in the area! We hope to be back very soon!!
When we camped, the site was still being constructed and improved, but that didn’t affect our stay. The hosts were super friendly (they gave us fresh eggs from their coops and squash from the huge garden — we ate like KINGS) and made sure we were comfortable. The sites were shady and well-kept. And the freshwater pond helped us cool off during the 100°+ days.
This place is awesome!!! Sam was such a great host and he and his Dad as well as Dave were all so great and friendly! They made sure we were taken care of the whole weekend and went over and beyond to ensure we were comfortable and had a great time.
We camped during July and were worried it would be too hot as it was our first time camping at this site, especially it being so close to Joshua Tree. We were pleasantly surprised by how much of a breeze we got during our stay. Thanks to the fresh water pond on their property, we were able to keep cool by taking a swim. It was like a desert oasis. It was so neat to hear the frogs croak when we were hanging out on the pedal boat!
Some more highlights that made our stay super awesome:
-Hot showers and running toilet (nice bathroom!)
-Rope swing and pedal boat
-Refill of wood every day for our bonfire
-Charcoal grill brought down for us to grill our food
-Fresh veggies picked from their garden and fresh eggs from their chickens!
-The owner’s doggies!
-Seeing deers roam about
-Other friendly campers and Sam’s friends
I will definitely come back here with more friends!
What a magical desert oasis! These guys were super accommodating! Gave us fresh eggs from the chicken coop, the swimming hole was very cool and the bathroom had a hot shower and a flush toilet! Can’t wait to go back !
Auntie Bert's is a lovely oasis in the midst of the desert. It's fully equipped for a great camping experience, - shaded campsites, a swimming hole, privacy, a vegetable garden, fresh eggs from chickens up the road, grills - both charcoal and gas, a cooking station, even indoor plumbing in an immaculately clean bathroom! The entire campground is currently a bit rough around the edges as they've only just opened, and are working on improvements (this explains the less than perfect rating for upkeep). But, I wouldn't let this deter you from staying here. It's already wonderful and will be sublime in the future. I highly recommend.
Staff was super nice and thorough. Property is atypical of J tree in the sense that there's lots of shade and a couple fun swimming holes. Beautiful landscape and conveniently located near town for people who want to sit at a coffee shop or go antique hunting.
Will likely stay again in the spring when there is more water.
Really enjoyed our stay here! The family who run the campsite were lovely and really helpful. There’s still work to be done on the site - but it didn’t effect our stay. Hopefully we’ll get to stay again when it’s complete!
This site is a desert oasis! Shady, with nice canyon breezes. This was a great place to see the Perseid meteor shower. Robert and Sam were great hosts and ready to give tips and show us around. We had a great time around the communal fire and grill. The pond is super cute- lots of bullfrogs and dragon flies. Don’t forget your bug spray!
