Occidental At Its Best!

Camping is flexible, depending on what type of setup you have. I try to have a community/festival atmosphere, so privacy is not the best. If you wish, not to have neighbors, I recommend booking both sites. Excellent for bikes, dogs, beautiful walks! Just a simple place among the forests and vineyards. Close to tasting rooms and 5 minutes from town. This is a very new listing

I have grown up in this area, so I can certainly point you in the right direction as far as restaurants, hikes and local fun stuff, Whatever your heart desires!
Please keep in mind that this is a construction site. Although we are not doing any significant work when campers are present, It can be an eyesore for some.
Safe travels! hope to see you soon!

We had a lot of fun and Jonah was an awesome host. The property isn't huge but there's plenty to do in the area. The town of Occidental is right down the street, which is a neat little town. The redwoods and Bodega Bay are also very close. My kids had a blast.
Not private but hospitable host
Overall, we enjoyed our time but were a bit disappointed with the description of the amenities. We were looking forward to a weekend getaway and, based on the photo and described amenities, thought this place would be perfect. The site was not at all what we expected.
Unfortunately, there was no privacy and the shower was “open-air” with a hose in the middle of the kitchen between the host RV and other campers. The only hookup was a 110 power cord connected to the hosts’ generator, and the restroom on site was a port-a-potty which needed some attention.
The only reason for an average instead of poor review was because of the host, Jonah. He was very kind and hospitable which made our experience better. He shared a lot of good information about the area and provided much appreciated recommendations. The area surrounding the campsite was beautiful with vineyards and orchards and very little vehicle traffic which made for nice walks.
Our recommendation for improvement would be to add more photos of the site so there are no surprises for guests upon their arrival.
Pros: Location, location, location! Nice drives to the river, ocean, with a lovely view from the property as well as quiet walks in the neighborhood. It's hard to find camping spots in this area. Kids played in dirt, picked blackberries, and got to push around in a Jonah's wagon. Jonah is also an amazing host. Cons: You'll be cozy with other campers if all 3 are booked. The site is on Jonah's property, where he's rebuilding his house. This prob isn't for everyone. We were surprised by it but his description did warn us that he was new to Hipcamp! If you know what to expect, it's fine. We'd come back for the positives I shared.
We enjoyed meeting Jonah, who was very helpful with info about the area. It was nice to be out of the city, in country with nice views of trees and mountains in the distance. Having an outhouse was a plus too.

There's good potential for this location - and Jonah's very friendly and open. It would be better if there were a clear area for the campers to set-up - with tables at each site. (Jonah brought over a little one for us.) Great to have a BBQ and big stove, but the kitchen area needed to be cleaned up (e.g., dirty dishes and garbage cleared, different bins emptied and marked). And clearing out the debris around the site, like pieces of corrogated tin, would make it nicer. And the outhouse needed attention.

Hello Kathy, Sorry the site did not meet you expectations. The site is listed as "dispersed" this is not a KOA with defined spaces. I leave it up to the campers, depending on their setup to determine what is right for them. The outhouse is serviced weekly. So I'm sorry it was not cleaned the day you arrived, but i have little control over that. Safe travels!
This is a great deal, lovely setting, and I would camp there again. Host is a very nice guy. He is doing demolition/construction/renovation on the site which is a little distracting, and the camping facilities are in process of upgrading. Campsites are fairly close together, which eventually can be worked with.
We had a beautiful site for our camper van. Johan is VERY helpful, friendly and knowledgeable! Fun family atmosphere! We enjoyed meeting the other guests.

Jonah’s site is great - good location, nice set up, not too close to the neighbors’ houses. Jonah is an excellent host - really helpful and friendly!
Jonah is a very kind and helpful host, and Sonoma County is beautiful. Occidental is a charming town with good restaurants. But the site itself leaves a great deal to be desired. Jonah is planning to refurbish a house and garage on the property, and it is more like a construction site than a peaceful, lovely campsite. Tools and stacks of wood are lying around, and the camp sites are not well marked. I wish I could be more positive because Jonah is so nice but he has a lot of work to do to make this an appealing camping site.

Hello Rebecca, Sorry the site was not up to your standards. I believe all of that is covered in the description of the property. The sites are "dispersed" as in, not well marked so that campers can decide for themselves what suits them depending on their setup. Also, I do not do any construction work while campers are present, unless it has something to do with the accommodations. I wish you safe travels! Jonah

Hello Barron, Sorry the site did not meet you expectations. I do however have details of those amenities on the site. I also, do not have a generator running. everything is on the grid and the available hookups are listed on the description as well. The outhouse is serviced weekly, so I'm sorry it was not up to your standards. I have little control over that. I wish you safe travels! Thanks, Jonah
