Driving through the winding hills towards Topanga encourages you to slow down your mind and focus on the direction you’re going. As the number of trees starts to thicken, the LA freeways seem further and further away. Before you know it, you’re in the beautiful tree-laden community of Topanga.

Once you turn off Topanga Canyon Blvd and wind in between those houses you’ll come to Lisa’s property. Parking on the main road is recommended. Come thru the gate and you’ll be welcomed by the calming energy on this land. You can set up your tent anywhere that suits your fancy. There are a few good pockets beneath the trees.

Lisa is such a sweet soul and shared what she had so warmly with us. We talked with her for quite a while in the evening about her land and the history of the land. She’s got a few good stories up her sleeve.

Be sure to bring all the camping + cooking gear you might need. There are a few tables around you can use though! There’s a very nice bathroom in her house that has its own side entrance for you to use. Shower usage is an additional cost though. This land is a lovely quick escape from the bustling LA. It’s within walking distance to Topanga Living Cafe, which Lisa recommended, we had a yummy breakfast there in the morning. Looking forward to our next visit to this gem of a location.

Plenty of room to find a good spot for your tent. We went down the road before it got dark and stopped by Rogue Journeymen (leather goods shop) at Topanga Creek Outpost and got these amazing hand-dyed coasters. Our feast of the evening: Impossible Burgers.Caitie setting up her tent for the evening.

We had a wonderful stay on Lisa's land. The moon was bright, we heard owls and slept peacefully amidst the sweet Topanga breeze. Lisa was accommodating, greeted us as we came in and gave us the rundown and was very communicative leading up to our arrival. Would definitely stay there again.

I had a fantastic stay on Lisa's property. The property was BEAUTIFUL and Lisa was the most welcoming host I have ever met in my life!!! Lisa made sure that my friend and I who camped on her property had everything we needed and that we knew exactly how to get there. Since we got there late at night she told us to not worry about needing to check out early, so sweet of her. We talked to her in the morning and she recommended a great coffee shop and some sites to see while in California. The bathroom was super clean and worked out great. Everything about the experience was fantastic and Lisa did everything possible to make this a great stay. We would love to stay here again!!!

Lisa was amazing. Friendly and respectful. She greeted me on my arrival, and pointed out a few places for me to hang my hammock (as well as suggesting a few places to avoid). The only other time I heard from her was in the morning, when she hollered out to make sure I was ok (I was cleaning off some dirt from a stake, and it looked a bit like I was being attacked by bees)
The location was perfect; quiet and removed from civilization, but also so close to LA!
This was hands down one of my favorite hipcamop experiences. My only regret is that I took a ton of photos and the memory card I had failed (thankfully I also took a few with my phone)
Guess I'll just have to come back

Nice spot in the eclectic Topanga Canyon. Lisa has a unique and wonderful property positioned well for all the nearby hiking, beaches and topanga sights. We camped under the oaks and had a great time, thanks Lisa!

I would like future campers to know this not a campsite— it is someone’s front yard. While the host was perfectly accommodating I did feel mislead by the posting. When I go camping I expect a site, flat terrain, a table,, and privacy. While the bathroom was very clean, there were no curtains on the door or window so anyone could view you while you are using the bathroom.

Additionally this is a residential neighborhood and I got the impression that the neighbors were not pleased with this set up.

We do feel like we got the best campsite but were definitely a little disappointed. There is one campsite that is legitimately on a drive way.

Hi Hannah, I am SO SORRY You & Your Guests left feeling disappointed. We are on 16 acres. I'm sorry you didn't get a chance to explore the land & area. "Yes" this "Hipcamp" is not only new to me but it is a new experience for my Neighbors as well. Please know photos taken by Hipcamp Photographer clearly indicat "Our Home" directly adjacent to Campsites. I have been hosting Guests on The Ranch for 17 Years most find it convenient that there is a vehicle access somewhat adjacent. Again, I am sorry your were disappointed. I wish you would have expressed. All I knew was it appeared that you & your Friends were thoroughly enjoying yourselves. Wishing you nothing but the best. Sincerely, Lisa

This was an absolutely beautiful camping stay. The land is gorgeous and very close to hiking, swimming, and a great local coffee spot. At night we were serenaded by owls under a full moon. The weekend was refreshing for my soul.

We had an amazing time here. It will definitely be memorable for our family. This was our kid’s first time camping and they loved it. Lisa was very friendly and entertained our kids well with her rooster and dog. The property is beautiful and very happy there was a restroom available. This is a good location if you want to go to the beach, hiking or simple get away.

We had a lovely time staying at Nestled In An Ancient Oak Grove., very conveniently located near Topanga Canyon Beach and State Park. Lots of dining and cute shopping nearby, but also a “you’re in nature” feel. The property has four camping spots, all shaded by oak or Catalpa trees. There are several spots for cooking and dining. Our favorite was an old shipping container converted to an adorable dining room! Cooking is allowed if you bring your own butane or Coleman camping stove and use it safely. No open flames, smoking, or campfires allowed. Potable water at a couple of taps with hoses on the property. Restroom with shower at the rear of the house. Very clean. Only minor issue is the bathroom has a large, open window, so you are doing your business or showering with a view of the elements. Also, other campers could walk in on you, but, if you’re considerate, as everyone staying there was, it was no big deal. I’ve camped at places with open outdoor showers far less private than this. Lisa, the host, is so very nice and accommodating. Do bring cold weather gear, as it can get chilly at night. Do be cautious, as there are wild animals around, including Black Widows and snakes. We did not encounter any of these. We did enjoy the company of Robin, the camp’s gorgeous and friendly resident rooster. Lisa kindly let my son feed him and hold him, the highlight of our trip! We had a great, relaxing time.
