Sites include picnic table, charcoal BBQ pits, individual trail heads to the creek from each site (20 foot trails), access to porta potty, community play ground, very large 16 foot long swing set, volley ball net and tetherball in the meadow. Each site can accommodate up to 10 campers comfortably and 2 cars. There is over flow parking up by the entrance to the meadow and camp sites off of the dirt road.

Lots of wild life including birds, great blue heron, wood peckers, deer, fox, rabbits, bears and so much more! There is direct access to hiking, biking trails and horseback riding trails. Camp sites are 3 miles off of the power grid in the Sierra Mountains, located in a secluded area on private property, backed up to the Stanislaus National Forest.

Unfortunately burning has been suspended in our area for the summer but we do offer tall out door patio heaters that provide for heat in the cool evenings and give a nice ambiance to your camping experience. The heaters are available during check out or you are welcome to bring your own.

Q: How dry is the creek this summer?

A: It's Summer 2022 and water is low but still flowing. You can hike up the creek bed to find natural springs and areas to splash around in even during dry summer months. (please note that they are not suitable for filtering water)

Q: Do cellular phones work?

A: Some do and some don't. AT&T seems to be the clearest service. I have sprint and my phone does not work but my husband has sprint with a different model cell phone and his service works. Emergency 911 calls work from every cellular phone clearly.

Q: Is the meadow green year round?

A: The meadow is green during the spring and full of wildflowers until early summer when it then gets mowed. We are right at 3,100 ft elevation and the snow line! There may or may not be snow in the winter.

Q: Can I drive right up to the sites and do I need 4 wheel drive?

A: During the summer you can drive right up to the sites. I do not recommend lowered vehicles. Motorcycles are welcome but the meadow is bumpy so we recommend very experienced riders only. During the winter there can be snow and full 4 wheel drive is needed. AWD is not a suitable substitution for full 4 wheel drive. We make these recommendations because we want you to be able to access your site with no problems and enjoy your stay! :-)

Q: Are all of the camp sites completely level?

A: The meadow is sloped and the campsites are placed in the most level areas of the meadow. We have successfully set up two 10 person tents at each site in level areas. RV's are a little challenging to get perfectly leveled and this is one of the reasons that 24' length RV's are the max that our sites accommodate. We can only accommodate one RV at each site. The sites are large and there is room for one RV plus one vehicle plus tents at each site.

Q: Are there bears and what do I do?:

A: We are very fortunate to have a wide variety of wildlife here at the Lazy G Ranch including racoons, fox and bears. Please remember to secure your food and garbage at all times and never in your tent. Our bears are brown bears and generally just scavenging. We have always been able to scare them off by just making a lot of noise (banging pots and pans) We do not guarantee that you will see a bear but a couple of times a year there have been sightings reported.

Location: Fort Jones, Calaveras County, CA.

Nearby places to see:

We HIGHLY recommend Candy Rock Swim Hole! A beautiful scenic 30 minute drive away and you will find yourself on the water with a swim hole that flows through tall wide open caves. The water is clear, mild temperature and just perfect for yourself or the whole family to cool off! We automatically send a link with directions when you book!

Calaveras Big Trees State Park (17 Miles), Columbia State Historic Park (27 miles, 1 hour drive), Indian Grinding Rock, Stanislaus National Forest, San Antonio Creek Falls, White Pines Lake, Candy Rock Swim Hole and Cave, Mercer Caverns and Wine Tasting in the town of Murphys, CA (14 miles away).

Creekside Camping Retreat Site is a nice choice for a low-key, relaxed Hipcamp not far from the quaint downtown district of Murphys, California.

During our short stay at Creekside Camping Retreat Site, my husband and I pitched a tent near a provided charcoal grill and picnic table. The camping plot was clean and easily accessed. The simple, outdoor toilet facility was also conveniently accessible and in good, working condition.

The grounds of Lazy G Ranch are open and spacious. There is room to stretch out and enjoy; a children’s playground, tetherball set-up, and volley ball net are primed and ready for use. The sound of the stream gurgling below is most likely heard as you prepare a meal on the picnic
table, or repose in your bivouacked lodging during wetter seasons.

However, in the hottest, driest days of summer, my husband and I heard only a pleasant chorus of melodic bird calls. There are many open and shaded spots to choose from, so it was easy to find a suitable spot to relax.

For a quiet location in modest driving proximity to the wineries and amenities of nearby Murphys, Creekside Camping Retreat Site is a nice spot. We enjoyed our time here.

Very nice and off the beaten path. Large meadow with only 3 sites. Super quiet and great for kids.

Secluded camping by a beautiful meadow -- with gorgeous flowers, when we were there! There are picnic tables, shade, and it's nearby to several cool attractions, too. Note that it's a little tricky to identify the exact location of the campsites -- it's not super clear where to go if you arrive at night -- but overall, would highly recommend!

The place is good. They forgot to mention that the creek is dry so there was no water. I wasn’t exactly prepared for that. Apart from that I enjoyed being the only tent out there so I had the desired quiet time, it is far enough to have no light pollution and only a few cars pass by. I enjoyed it generally.

Response from Lorna, the Host, on October 13th, 2021

I am so sorry that you didn't see the section in the listing that says this year the creek is dry. It's the first time in 10 years. I'm glad that you enjoyed the rest of your stay!

Nice and quiet. Off the beaten path. Campsites are a bit sloped and there are some thorny plants so be careful. Host responded quickly to messages and accommodated us checking in late.
