Enjoy the private country atmosphere on our 40 acre ranch in Lockwood, which is located off Highway 101 between Paso Robles and King City. Sites are nestled in the oak trees. Trails are available for walks and taking in the views of the valley below. Sunsets and starlit nights can be stunning.
South 40 Rocks--site 1 features a unique rock wall and lots of shade. It's perfect for tents and a hammock or a travel trailer or RV.
South 40 Flats--site 2 is quite large and level with oaks trees. We just improved this site with a nook and rock wall which provides a cozy spot and shade. This site is perfect for RVs and trailers, but many campers have set their tents up at this campsite.
We now have a water truck to help us with controlling the dust.
Unique hand painted South 40 souvenir rock available for $10.00.
Corrals are available for an extra fee if you are travelling with horses.
Enjoy the sounds of nature, an occasional cow mooing and lots of wildlife.
There is no poison oak on the property.
This is your private spot where we will leave you alone or bring you an ice cream in the afternoon, whichever you prefer.
We are located near Lake Nacimiento, Lake San Antonio, San Antonio Mission, Fort Hunter Liggett, San Miguel Mission and the Nacitone Museum. There is local wine tasting and we are 45 minutes from wine tasting in Paso Robles.

This is a great site. The owners were very kind people, the land was pretty and campsite it self was very clean. I will definitely recommend this place to friends and won’t hesitate to go back again.
It was a delightful experience staying at South 40. Neil and Karen were gracious hosts and made sure we were taken care of. The campsite was private and had a firepit, table/benches, and clean bathrooms. If you walk the hill behind the campsite, you get a really great view of the valley and sunset/sunrise. The stargazing was amazing as well. The campsite is located about 30 min drive from lake San Antonio which was nice. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would recommend this campsite.
We really enjoyed the stay at South 40. We were at site 2 which has less shade then site 1 but still a nice big level area. Neil was great with communication. Would recommend staying here. Great area for off leash dogs.
Excellent hosts and an oaky landscape to enjoy. Has all of the convenience of car camping without a slew of neighbors. Walking trails are available for recreation. Be mindful of wildlife in the area, we encountered snakes, ground squirrels and jack rabbits mostly.
Neil’s Hipcamp spot accommodated our truck/toy hauler nicely. The site was private & quiet. The host and his family were eager to make sure that we had what we needed. It was a perfect staging area for some fantastic backroads rides. We will be back!
Great peaceful little nook
South 40 was great and just what we were looking for. We were on site 1 with a small teardrop and it was perfect. A quiet little nook. You could walk up the small hill behind it and see almost 360 degrees of the scenery. The site was minimalist and well kept with a fire ring, picnic table and shared portapotty. The owners were lovely, allowing us our privacy but also checking in to make sure we were okay and to offer us ice cream. Our dog enjoyed chasing the nearby rabbits and squirrels, a freedom she doesn’t get to enjoy in other crowded campsites. Stars were pretty at night and it was so peaceful. We did hear a few animals (pigs, deer, elk…?) at night so just be aware of your surroundings. Would def recommend if you’re looking for something quiet, simple and private near King City.

Quiet, peaceful, and clean! Loved our quick visit here. We arrived late, but Neil had put out firewood and solar lights for us so it was easy to get set up. Fell asleep listening to Coyotes howl in the distance and woke up to a beautiful property, perfect for a quick morning walk with the dog. Would definitely come back if we're ever in the area again.

Neil & Karin were wonderful hosts. Their directions were easy to follow, and as they mentioned, our GPS told us to go a different way but we followed their notes and made it with no issues :) it was a great drive, very relaxing once off the main road. We enjoyed our ice cream and our antisocial dog ran right up to both hosts who sweetly asked to give him a treat as well. One thing I didn't realize was there are 2 sites there, we apparently parked and set up at the wrong one, but since no one else was arriving that night they let us stay there. We enjoyed the hike up the hill and did a nice little loop with our dog a couple times. Oh, do not forget to check out the stars!! They were absolutely amaziiiiing!!
