Heartland exists where the wilderness of off-grid life meets an artistic collective that sings possibility to the fringe dwellers of the Regenerative Eco-Village movement. Heartland offers people a break from the craziness of what so many call "life" and a view of what can be co-created with each other for each other. As in permaculture, the Heartland model is about doing more with less, it's about allowing our individual and diverse natural Flow states to merge forging new pathways of co-creation that are the true answer to our collective purpose.
Tent #2 is on a perfectly flat 16'x20' cedar deck. It's the only tent that is relatively close to another tent, so it's a great choice when you want to be close to your neighbors. This spot is relatively central and you are a 2-4 minute walk from all amenities.
On-Site Bonus Attractions:
Want a mind altering add-on experience? We have a sensory exultation tank which offers a relaxation and/or meditation experience not found anywhere else in this world. Step in to a 4 foot by 8 foot dark tank. Soon after you lay down you'll become very aware of a full body vibrational experience, layered with a Bio-Mat offering Far Infrared Rays designed to improve circulation and speed up the healing of soft tissue. If that was not enough, we have you wearing a Woojer Vest offering full chest vibration synced with the audio program of your choice. If that was not enough, we offer you an added Kasina experience, this Pali term refers to an ancient system of meditation that uses visual objects to focus the mind. This visual add-on induces yet more positive mood shifting effects.
Check out our experiences and/or ask about other potential add-ons because we likely have things going on that you'd be interested to join.
Close-by Attractions:
With a 15 minute drive away there is also a really beautiful clear water swimming hole with a tire swing open all year. Another very highly recommended day trip is the famous Yuba river, which is roughly an hour away.
Store:
The nearest and best store is 30 minutes away so plan accordingly (Holiday Market, Auburn).
The Seasonal Fluctuations:
We have seasons at Heartland, and due to the high peak heat of August and the coldest winter month of February we hibernate and close the retreat.
*Spring* - March-May
The shire is alive! It's fresh, green, and the lake is (usually) 100% full and less than 5 minute walk. Can't beat this experience and it's something you'll always desire coming back to after it has been experienced once. Nights are often cold, so bring extra layers!
*Summer* - June-July
The northern California Oak Savanna with these expansive views and golden grass canvas brings a deep sense of peace to everyone. The lake is (usually) 50-75% full (5-7 min walk) and during the hottest times of the day there is nothing more soothing than a 1 or 4 ;) hour relaxing float in the lake. BYO floatie ;)
*Fall Notice* - Sep-November
It's gorgeous here, but please know that our lake is a reservoir and it is low between Sep-November. Swimming is still possible but the walk to swimmable water is longer. During this time the bottom of the lake offers remarkable river hikes.

Not only was the campground serene and beautiful, but the community Shama and Anders have created there is nothing like I’ve ever felt before, like a home away from home where you are part of the family. You must go on the tour! Seeing the whole of Heartland and learning about the intention that’s poured into each space took the whole experience to another level. The infini-pod was a relaxing break from the world and getting to meet the chickens was so cool, farm fresh eggs are totally worth it! This was by far the most refreshing and renewing camping experience I’ve had, you’ll never want to leave!

Loved meeting Shama and Anders. Both were so friendly and interesting. We got hear a bit about the history and vision of the land. Speaking of the land- wow! It truly felt like a little oasis. Really wasn’t expecting to feel so nestled in 360 nature. It was fun to see the cows and chickens wandering around, and hear SO MANY BIRDS (if you enjoy bird songs you’ll be in love with this place). The yurt was simple and comfortable. We stayed warm even with the chill of early March. We had everything we needed. We also rented kayaks during our stay and definitely would recommend it. The reservoir is huge. Fun to explore in the kayak and by foot. Anders was really responsive to questions and Shama gave us a warm welcome upon arrival and departure. Beautiful, peaceful, private.

The heartland collective grounds were absolutely stunning. We stayed for a few days and felt so refreshed by the end - to the point where we didn’t really want to leave. I recommend doing yoga under the sun on the big platform and then taking a cold plunge in the lake afterwards. It’s a blast 😊 In the late afternoon, take an easy stroll along the path near the lake to enjoy the sunset. At every point of the day, but especially in the morning, the birds fill the air with song which makes the land feel like it’s out of a fairytale. Being at this place is a pure delight. We can’t wait to go back.
Beautiful area! Yurts were nice and warm and the land was gorgeous for walking around. Little tricky to get to the location because of the long gravel road, but definitely worth it once you're there!
This is one of those rare places you don't want to tell anyone about, because you want to keep it all to yourself. It is SOOOOO quiet and comfortable and it's the perfect mix of modern amenities and "roughing" it out in nature. I can't say enough great things and am looking forward to going back during the warmer months!
What a lovely spot! We stayed here one night on our way to Yosemite and we would definitely come back for more. The tent was so comfortable, we all slept perfectly, including our 2-month old! There was an easy to use propane stove in the communal kitchen so we could fry up some eggs and boil our water for coffee pour overs for breakfast.
Due to our travel plans we had to arrive around 10:30pm so the bumpy gravel road headed in to the site felt long and stressful, but as we came out in the morning we realized it wasn’t too bad, just best navigated in the daylight.

Great place, will visit again.
It’s defiantly worth every Penny we spend. Great hosts, volunteers and facilities.
We had a great time here with our six year daughters (twins). I loved the spaciousness of the platform tent. We love car camping and it was a real treat not having to pitch a tent, having a floor with a rug, and a bed with sheets! Shama was extremely gracious and welcoming. I wish we had signed up for the tour - will do next time. I was very impressed with the mission and the ethics of Heartland and I want to learn more. The outdoor showers were a treat. Our daughters loved the chickens and the cats. Our hosts were so kind when our car battery died, and they jumped our car for us. Cooking in the outdoor kitchen was really nice. For the lake, we brought a shade structure which was very helpful. The sun was intense in July as would be expected for this region. We can't wait to come back.

This place is truly magical! My kids (ages 10, 6 & 6) and I stayed here as a stop along week long road trip and absolutely loved it. Anders & Sharma were so friendly & welcoming that we all felt at home instantly. The kids loved being able to explore the grounds and spend time with the animals. The mister tent was a favorite, too. The tent & beds were comfortable and the view of the stars at night was breathtaking. We will definitely be back again.
