A wilderness engorged adventure
A very Wilderness engorged Adventure! It was very hard to find initially but once we found it and got to our spot it was a very peaceful and secluded area where Wilderness and animal we're right up on you. Coyotes are very dominant but as long as you don't mess with them and all your food is put up at night you will be fine.
Fun for quick family trips.
This site is just on top of a small mesa of a country road. It is surrounded by a number of large properties and about 40% of the vista is ‘wild’. That being said - site 3 was a nice site - we had enough room for our large 9 person tent, and a smaller two person tent, but you could easily have put a few more up. There is a clean porta-potty, a warped table tennis table, and some corn-hole boards and bags, and a lovely hammock. We cooked using gas due to the fire pit ban. And had a nice enough time reading, and telling ghost stories with the kids.
Unfortunately a neighbor about 1/2 mile away across the valley had a loud party from 11pm - 1am. We survived and had a great night apart from that.
Kimberley was very responsive to texts, and apologized for the neighbors, saying that this was a fluke. I agree.
We didn’t find a whole lot to do off the Mesa - but it was a nice spot to chill, eat, drink, watch the sunset, and just have a fun night out with the family. Also it was very safe for dogs, ours were off leash the whole time.
Great, shady campsites
We enjoyed our stay! It was such a hot weekend, but these campsites were shaded, cool, and pleasant. The port-a-potty was very clean. The campsites were relatively close together, but not too close. Nice views. Check-in and check-out were easy. Our dogs had a great time running around and sniffing. We really enjoyed the ping pong table! It is not in good shape from sitting outside, but we still had a blast playing ping pong. There are coyotes in the area. They didn't bother us, of course, but be prepared for the coyote howling at night. We leashed our dogs once it got dark.
We were in a pinch and Kimberlee’s camp saved the day! I got the dates wrong by one night for Carlsbad state beach and in a panic messaged Kimberlee- she got right back to me, we connected and we booked. All in 30 min. Her camp was great! The kids loved it! Super basic but we had plenty of camp stuff to make that work. We made it to our Carlsbad beach front site and the kids all voted that they liked Kimberlee’s camp site better. We really appreciate Kimberlee helping us make some sweet lemonade out of our lemons!!
