The site is clean, quiet, and provides everything you need to camp out for a few days: potable water and a real sink, a port-o-potty, a covered picnic table, a couple of lounge chairs, and some relatively-level land to pitch a tent on! I stupidly let my dog off of his leash and he chased after some deer, which gave me a bit of a scare, but he came back after 5 minutes (whew). The land is mostly fenced-off, but the HWY is adjacent, so I could have lost my dog forever. The store across the street is extremely over-priced, so come prepared! (Though they do have a great selection in case you do need something--river shoes, propane, fire wood, water, ice, etc.) There's nowhere to plug in your electronics, but everyone in my party had a cell signal, which is somewhat rare for camping. The river really is just right there! I'd stay here again.
We had a fantastic time camping at Doug’s! The space was very big and so close to everything in town that we walked everywhere. There was a table, a fire pit and lounge chairs available for use. We would definitely come again!
We had such an amazing time camping!! The campsite was absolutely beautiful and peaceful, we will definitely be camping there again. Doug was very nice and informative.
Doug is an awesome host! The camping area is lovely, clean and well tended. Very convenient location, walking distance to the State Park, hiking trails and the American River. Nice grassy area to set tents up on. If you are tent camping and a light sleeper, bring ear plugs on busy nights because it's near the road. It was wonderful to be in an area with only two campsites rather than the 100+ at the local resorts.
Doug was great with communication. The site was clean, and we had our choice of a shadier or sunnier place to park our RV. It was a quick walk to the river. Great place, nice location, and having a little market across the street was a real bonus since I forgot a toothbrush. Hope to go back later in the season when it’s a little bit cooler.
There was no one to greet us. No sign as where to check in. It was a dry patch of grass in a side yard. Was not what we expected so we left. No refund so lost $170 for 2 nights of ?? Would not recommend.

Sorry to hear Julie complain publicly like this. I was on site the whole time inside the cottage on the property. Although I never heard them drive in (if they did), a simple message that they arrived would've been nice. Even knocking on the door of cottage would've brought me out. I have two campsites only. They could've chosen one of them - no problem. The weather has been over 100 degrees so the whole Coloma valley is very dry this time of year. CA is in a drought so water usage is limited as well. Once I got word via message that they left, I invited them back but they said they were headed home. I'm sorry they feel they are entitled to a refund when they cancel after 30 minutes of check-in time when planned to stay 3 nights. Every other Hipcamper that has stayed here, I have greeted them at the front entrance because they let me know they were coming or that they arrived. I'm truly sorry Julie chose to not communicate with me prior to arrival or even when they arrived.
The campsites were great and even had supplied firewood and very shady. The site is perfectly located in the center of town, a short walk from the river. I enjoyed watching the abundant deer and quail too! Access was easy and the parking area was easy enough to level up at. Doug was very responsive and helpful. I am looking forward to staying here again.

Thanks Jacob! I appreciate the thoughtful review. Sorry it took me a bit to respond. I sure hope you can make it back again soon. Cheers. Doug
Good guy with good setup

Thanks Michael! It was great having you all here. Doug
