Genesee Camp

Kristine’s camp is awesome! It is everything I was hoping for. It’s really quiet and mostly secluded, which made it super easy for my boyfriend and me to chill out and relax with our two dogs. The site is situated in a clearing among numerous tall pines, a small river is a short walk away, and you have a view of a few of the nearby peaks through the trees. It’s a beautiful area and I was grateful to have the opportunity to spend some time there.

The camp was nicely setup with everything we needed plus some thoughtful touches which made us feel welcome. A large jug of drinking water was provided. Several seating options were in place, including a picnic table. Plenty of firewood was available at the camp, plus newspaper to get it started and a small metal shovel for adjusting burning logs. The fire ring also had a grill to cook on. I appreciated the fire safety equipment on site— no one wants to be responsible for starting a wildfire. The port-a-potty was in good shape too.

There were no negatives for me, but here are some things to be aware of. A bit of Kristine's house and the road is visible through the trees. They're a ways off and the road is minimally-traveled. I was looking for quiet and solitude and was not bothered by either. This is camping in the woods so I assume we all expect mosquitoes, but definitely pack bug spray. We made it to the site fine in our car, but if you have a low clearance vehicle it might be iffy. It might also be iffy trying to find the campsite on your own, there are a couple of forks in the road. We were shown the way after stopping at Kristine's house, we let her know ahead of time when we would be arriving. I was glad we texted her well in advance because we did not have cell service (Verizon) in the area or really anywhere close by.

A couple of things I liked in the area-- there's a great little hike from Silver Lake to Gold Lake, about an hours drive away but worth the effort, IMO. The yummy homemade pie from Hanson's in Taylorsville, wish I would have known to order a whole pie 24 hours ahead of time. The Genessee Store down the road looked fun, I was bummed they were closed when we got there.

I would gladly go back on future camping trips, but I think the best testament I can give is that our dog didn't want to leave! He normally can't wait to get in the car but he could not be persuaded into leaving. We had to resort to picking him up and putting him in the care so we could head home.

We just spent a lovely weekend at Genesee Camp. The site was situated in a beautiful area on Indian Creek which is a short walk from the campsite. The area is near the mountains of the Plumas National Forest. Genesee Valley is a beautiful wide flat valley surrounded by steeply the rising mountains. This campsite is in open forest and was well thought out, well equipped, and clean. Kristine was informative about other places to visit in the area. We will definitely visit again. Awesome location!! Kristine has a wonderful spot with a fire pit, picnic table, and rocking chair. She provided us with water, a bathroom, and campfire wood. It is a short walk to Indian Creek, which is beautiful with crystal clear water and several small beaches/swimming holes. Close to so many awesome hikes and access to Crystal Lake!

Staying here was great!! Had a lovely private weekend stay with some friends. A beautiful drive up and plenty of nature! A stream nearby leads into a river where you can swim. It was also fun to look for crawfish there. Only think to look out for is the sand in the parking area by the camp. Our 2WD truck got stuck a few times - if there wasn’t 6 of us I’m not sure how we would have gotten it out! Overall, great stay! Thanks Kristine!

Had such an amazing time staying at Genesee Camp! Kris was a wonderful host, she showed us to the campsite when we arrived and gave us some information about the surrounding area. The site itself was really clean and well-kept. It's also very private and there was plenty of shade and places to set up our tents. The firepit was huge and included a grate, which was perfect for cooking food and there was plenty of firewood too. The creek is only a short walk from the campsite and was absolutely beautiful. We even found a nice spot to go swimming. This was one of the nicest campsites I have ever stayed in and will definitely be staying here again soon!

My wife and I stayed at Genesee camp for our Anniversary, the campsite and Host, Kristine, were amazing! The creek nearby is an awesome place to cool off on a hot day, but there's also shade at the campsite to sit under if swimming isn't your thing. At the site you have a nice fire pit with a rotating grill to cook your food, as well as plenty of firewood and water. I'd recommend bringing a vehicle with decent ground clearance, we were in a crossover/midsize SUV and were fine, but a sedan may bottom out. For us, that makes the location even better, since there's no nicely paved road up to your campsite, that'd be boring! Thank you Kristine for a perfect experience, we will most definitely be back!

We loved our time at Genesee Camp! It was gorgeous and peaceful. Kristine was available for us to ask questions when we sought her out. other than that we did not see or hear her. The campsite was very private and just what we needed. Very well thought out with the fire wood/ring/tools and plenty of stumps/bences to sit or use as tables. We will definitely return!
