Kris was very sweet, and the campsite was lovely! Nice and open, and she provided us with free firewood and a 5 gallon container of water. The creek was beautiful, and only a short walk from the campsite. The toilet on site was well taken care of.
Definitely bring bug spray! If you don't do well with the heat, I'd look at reserving in the beginning or end of the season - May/June or September
This is our second time there. I already booked again for my birthday this August, but I might have to cancel due to my work schedule, and my wife's. But I wish we could live there. It's just beautiful, the entire area, the people are great, Everyone there appreciates nature and Kristine is such a great, warm, awesome human being. If I have to cancel for our 3rd August trip coming up, we will be at her place for sure next year. 100 percent.
If you're thinking of staying there, don't hesitate. But if you need provisions, be sure to get everything in Quincy or Greenville, like fresh fruit etc. The Taylorsville store has great sandwiches and small supplies, ran by one woman. She has been sick most of the week, so the store was closed the last 3 days of trip. So keep that in mind, small town, so plan ahead.
Just book, you won't regret it. Water to swim is 5 minute walk, you have firewood provided, you have water provided, you have a toilet.
Just bring your smile. 10/10 ALWAYS
Great site, incredible area
Genesee camp was a wonderful escape. The drive itself to the site is Ike a time capsule, some incredibly beautiful and green valleys.
The site itself is great. Isolated enough to where we could play music late into the evening without a concern of disturbing another. We can’t wait to make the trip back and float the river that is about 500 yards away from the site. Pro tip; you may consider bringing ringworm meds if bringing pups, not a major concern just a friendly heads up!
Also, the Genesee store is a gem, highly recommend a meal there!
Awesome, blissful, heaven
Kristine is AWESOME.
We stayed here when the fires weren't too bad yet this past week. We booked about 4 months ago. No smoke, awesome weather, kids caught crawdads for 5 days, swam in Indian Creek etc.
She provides water, wood, and there's plenty. Super private, super quiet, and there's even a clean potty house for everyone about 20ft from camp.
The night before we left, the Dixie fire got really big, and she kept us updated, what was a warning turned into mandatory evacuation. So we packed up, and left. We left our super heavy canvas tent. But when things calm down, and if the area doesn't burn down.... So far it looks good and under control towards her area, I'll go back and get it on my travel photo assignment that's about 2hrs from there in a few weeks.
Anyhow. Plenty of things to do around there, hike, walk, relax, perfect for kids. Nice general store up road, with great sandwiches, odds and ends, ice cream break in Taylorsville - 10 minutes up the road.
Don't try to book now, because the fires are still going, and the entire area of Genesee is under mandatory evacuation still as of July 27th, as I'm writing this.
Anyhow, when fires stop. Don't hesitate to book her place. Pure bliss.
Beautiful shady site
Very spacious and clean. Creek and cute beach a short walk away. Lots of shade available. The only issues were that others sometime party at the beach late at night (We were there on a holiday). There is some road noise and dogs barking. Overall, a very pleasant stay.
Perfect wooded river camping
Gorgeous and exactly what we wanted. We had room to explore and spread out our three tents and 6 people. We had a blast adventuring through the woods and found a great secluded little beach to spend the day at the river.
Great place for camping! The site was private and the scenery was beautiful. Kristine greeted us and gave us potable water as well as everything one would need to douse a fire and firewood was prepared for us. Will definitely come back with friends!
