Lockwood Valley is so close to Los Angeles and other urban areas, but feels 1000 miles away. Our neighborhood is a gem within Lockwood Valley. The community has less than 20 residences so it is very rural, but neighborly. There are horses nearby, you will hear some roosters in the distance, and if you are lucky, you may hear the African lions or wolves from the next canyon over where there is a (fully contained) wildlife sanctuary called Steve Martins Working Wildlife (not the funny guy).
Great secluded spot for a fully contained RV. Easy entrance from a good dirt road, and easy drive through exit. Multiple spots to choose from for your RV, either with more sun or less. A picnic table is nestled in a grove of trees next to a steel fire pit ring. The site is about 200 yards from the entrance to the Los Padres National Forest with great hiking, mountain biking, birdwatching, hunting, etc. There is currently no privacy barrier between the campsite and the dirt road, but the traffic is extremely minimal.
This is a superb stargazing spot, far from the city lights. Many amateur astronomers come to this area for the dark skies. At a mile high, nights can be very cold, and in the winter it is possible to get up to a couple feet of snow. Weather conditions such as heavy rain or snow can make the roads and campsite impassable at times so cancellations are possible in this case (this happens a lot less than we would like, of course, because we need the precipitation!).
Please be aware that this is a rural neighborhood on the edge of the forest. As such, all the wonderful (and not so wonderful) insects of nature can be found, particularly in summer months. Also, because it is a neighborhood, there are times when neighborly activities can happen within earshot including, but not limited to: yard work, tree cutting, construction work, atv or motorcycle riding, get-togethers, hunting or target shooting, laughing and playing.

We loved the site: really comfortable, scenic and the picnic table with umbrella were perfect for us. Our conversation with Daniel about the land was amazing and we really enjoyed ourselves! We will definitely come back again!
Dan was a great host.
He was quite helpful and contributed to my experience. We went on 2 mile hike, I went horseback riding at the nearby ranch (walking distance) and just relaxed.
It is a very simple spot. A place to relax, bbq and make have a mellow fire.
I'll be coming back when it cools down a little.

We had a great time relaxing at this quiet spot. Dan is a great host, extremely knowledgeable of the area - can recommend anything you’re interested in, tell you about the animals, hikes, etc. - and he’s very responsive. He even came to help us with an rv issue on a Saturday night, thanks Dan!
There is a fire pit, picnic table and hammock spot available, so otherwise you must have a fully contained rv. There’s hiking within walking distance, and if you have another vehicle, can drive to other places Dan can recommend.
The spot is flat and the road was easy for us in a Class C. There are houses within the area, but not any that will impact your ability to relax, stargaze and enjoy nature in this spot. And if you’re extra quiet, you can hear almost every animal sound, including the wolves in the distance!
